“Spectacular sunset”

Dun Na Mara

My fiance and I stayed here for one night in February 2007 while visiting Oban. I had done my research on tripadvisor before we booked and had therefore high expectations for Dun na mara. As usual my fellow reviewers were spot on because this place is unbelievable and deserves 6 stars not 5.
When we drove up to Oban it was raining on and off, but miraculously the sun came out when we turned into the drive of Dun na mara. I have a soft spot for beautiful settings close to the sea, but this location even blew me away. When we walked up to the front door, Suzanne was already waiting for us and opened the door. After a little small talk with her & Mark, we were shown to our room (No 6), which was spacious and had incredible views. The furnishings were modern and stylish, with loads of natural colours (beige, grey, brown etc), which gave the room a very clean and elegant feel. The bathroom was spotlessly clean and had a power shower! You can tell they have spent a lot of thought on the interior design.
We then took a walk on the private pebble beach which is just outside the guest house, and admired the dramatic sunset.
Later we went into Oban, which is just a short drive away, for something to eat. We chose the "Waterfront Restaurant" and had fish & chips, which was lovely (I can also recommend the desserts: I had "Steamed chocolate pudding" - delicious but very naughty...).
The next morning we were looking forward to our breakfast, and again were not disappointed. My fiance had the full Scottish breakfast, which he said was very good, and I had a yoghurt with fruit compote and toast. Now, in some guest houses you would simply get a plastic pot of yoghurt like you buy in a supermarket, but here I was served fresh yoghurt with fruit, nicely presented in a ceramic bowl. Needless to say, it was very tasty.
All in all, a perfect weekend for us, and I put it all down to our fortunate choice to stay at Dun na mara. Suzanne & Mark have really created a boutique guest house, which may be more expensive than your usual B&B, but I quite happily pay the extra for an experience like this. We will definitely be back, and for longer than just one night.

We stayed here before an early sailing to Mull. This is a fantastic wee find – a Unique, luxurious place to stay with a beautiful setting overlooking the water. Dun Na Mara is extremely peaceful, warm and friendly. It is exceptionally modern yet warm, Charming, and full of character. Having stayed in many hotels around the world this is the best to date! We will be back!

Thank you Mark and Suzanne.

Unfortunately we arrived at Dun Na Mara after sunset on a drizzly evening in October and missed a valuable part of our one night stay in Oban. When we got up the next morning we were in awe of the spectacular setting and views of this property.

We were greeted by Mark and Suzanne upon arrival and they were perfectly gracious in welcoming us and providing us with the information we needed for our stay and finding our way around. If you look at their website you will get a good idea of the nature of this property, not just from the pictures but from the attention to detail. Our room was perfectly designed and decorated, the bath was brilliant and the touches in the public areas were flawless.

Mark was our host for breakfast, Suzanne was the breakfast chef and everything was perfect. We had an opportunity to visit before leaving and they were getting ready to take a little seasonal break. As alluded to in other reviews, our hosts are not hospitality "naturals" and they came to this business a few years ago from professional careers. We have stayed in places where everyone was hugging after a one night stay and this is not one of those. On the other hand they are a charming couple and you would like to count them among your friends.

As spectacular as the setting is at Dun Na Mara, it is a bit of a drive for dinner to the Oban side of the bay. We usually try to stay in towns for the convenience when we travel, but if you live in Glasgow or Edinbugh and want a secluded escape this is the place for you.

“Incredible”

We stayed here in September 2006 on the way to the Scottish islands. After viewing the slick web site, we were preparing ourselves for disappointment... (how could it really be that great?) but when we arrived at Dun Na Mara we were simply floored by it. It's absolutely perfect. A gorgeous house, a gorgeous location, isolated but a short drive to great restaurants. Our room was spectacular (we paid a little extra for a room facing the bay) with every detail taken care of. It felt as if we were living in a magazine - albeit a very comfortable one! It was on the high end of our price range, but we'd do it again in a heartbeat. Let me mention also that the breakfast was divine.

“What a view!”

Dun Na Mara

Another lovely bed and breakfast found during my latest trip to Scotland. What a beautiful situation this place was in . I am just sorry that the weather was not bright and sunny so that we could enjoy it.
The place was very minimalist but confortable. Good sized bedrooms and well equiped bathrooms. However I found the bed very low and mattress a bit too hard..
The breakfast were great, but a distinct lack of fresh fruit. Rice krispies ( childrens cereal ) and cornflakes were not an exciting choice. Some poached fruit, fruit salad, nice yoghurts would have been good. The main course choice was excellent and with much more exciting and unusual choices.
I loved the tranquility of this place. The owners helpful and efficient kept a discrete distance. They were there to give you information if you needed it but gave you privacy if you wanted to be alone.
This is the place to stay when visiting the Oban area, Lots of good places to eat close by
