“A great welcome at Wheeldon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

Even before we arrived the service from Wheeldon was exemplary
We had booked a spring break which proved impossible because of heavy snow. Wheeldon were excellent in rebooking for July, and before we arrived informed us of a discounted deal at what we discovered to be a superb restaurant in nearby Baslow.
On arriving at the cottage we were welcomed by Martin and Deborah. The cottage was very well presented and proved very comfortable.
The only drawback was we were here for a long weekend, and not for a week or two. We will rectify that in the future.
We bought the breakfast pack which proved to be of great quality and good value for money.
We enjoyed a great walk from the cottage. Sad to see that in the village only one of three pubs open on a Friday lunchtime. Looks like they rely on weekend and evenings for business.

Room Tip: The cottages all seem to have similar facilities. Those with a rear patio/dining area seem more priv...

Wheeldon Trees Farm cottages is a great place to visit it is within easy reach of all the places of interest in the Derbyshire Dales. This was my sixth visit and I shall be returning next year. Deborah and Martin are excellent hosts and they do everything to make your stay a happy one.
The cottages have been fitted out to a very high standard they have thought of everything that you could possibly need.

With family and various combinations of friends we have stayed at Wheeldon Trees most summers for at least five years. The situation is lovely, and every year the Hoffmanns seem to make improvements in the facilities - which were pretty good in the first place! They are also very welcoming, and - no less importantly - available on site virtually all the time. I would not hesitate to recommend their cottages to anyone - unless I thought they could become so booked up that I would not get my reservation next time ...

Room Tip: All the cottages are good; I would suggest booking one listed as for one person more than in your pa...

Deborah and Martin have got it just right. Our cottages were perfect for a family ranging from nine months to sixty-nine years with everything we needed and many things we didn't need but which made all the difference because they were there. As other reviewers have said, it's the little touches, the thoughtfulness of our hosts, and the wonderfully friendly ambience that make Wheeldon Trees Farm an exceptional venue for a holiday. When our three year old grandson and his nine month old cousin are happy, and they were very happy, then everyone is having a great time. We'll be back.

I booked at Wheeldon Trees Farm cottages over the internet as i was looking for somewhere in the Peak District where I could take my Mum ( in her 60's) and my neice (age 8 years) and nephew (age 11 years). It was easy to book and the owners, Deborah and Martin, were very helpful and infomrative from start to finish.

The cottages themselves were in a beautiful country location but close enough to travel to other places and activities, they are very well maintained and furnished with everything you could possibly need and outside seating for each cottage. There were lots of extras and even organic, vegan toiletries are provided. There is a laundry room (free) and it is stocked with additional items that you may require such as toilet roll and bin bags, cereal and snacks. There is a freezer well stocked with frozen home made food that you can help yourself to if you don't feel like cooking - delicious and at a reasonable price, money goes into an honesty box. The cottages are eco friendly too and provide recycling boxes, it has encouraged me to try the ecoballs for my laundry at home now!

The children loved helping Deborah to feed the chickens and lambs in the evenings and enjoyed patting the cows who passed by in nearby fields. We were lucky to have lovely weather and spent a lot of time outside however the long room was well stocked with activites for more riany days - pool table, football table, hundreds of dvds, a wii and games, toys puzzles and so on. I also made use of the yoga mats provided on a coupkld of occasions.

Pubs we enjoyed nearby and which were within walking distance were the Packhorse and the Royal Oak, both had a good variey of food on thier menu, large portions and vegetarian friendly! The kids really enjoyed the deserts.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here for the week and would recommend it to anyone else. We travelled from Scotland but it was worth the journey. Deborah and Martin proved to be very good hosts and are very approachabel and friendly.

This was a first time visit to the cottages having had it recommended by a friend. We booked two together to organise a family gathering for a week and everything was perfect. Whilst the cottages are traditional stone buildings they are very modern and comfortable, with sufficient privacy to do your own thing but also communal areas for socialising. The views are stunning and having a small number of chickens/lambs on site was a great way for the children to get closer to nature. The environmental attitude of Martin and Deborah is very impressive, they are incredibly friendly and have thought of everything you might possibly need, no need to go driving off to the shops in the event of forgetting anything. The games room is incredible, there must be hundreds of dvds, toys for all ages, a huge t.v and a Wii. One really impressive thing was that whilst this is a very dog friendly farm my wife is unfortunately allergic to them and she didn't have any issues at all thanks to the exceptional standards within each cottage. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the place to anyone.

A second holiday in Mycock Cottage. It is a very special place and so many little extra touches in the cottage which make for a perfect time. Even dog treats which to a Labrador make it extra special! The surrounding countryside and setting of the cottages is spectacular and within easy reach of so many lovely places. The echo theme running throughout the cottages and site make it a truly memorable holiday. Deborah and Martin are very kind and welcoming.
