“Another lovely meal in a lovely pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

We go to the Manifold when we want a decent, tasty meal locally without paying mega bucks. Last night we went to check on our reservations (as we are having a large group family meal at the end of March to celebrate our wedding) and ended up staying for a bite. The log fire was going and it was lovely and cozy. I had a lasagne with chips and a nice little dressed salad and my other half had the gammon. Both were great, nice and hot, served quickly and the service from the girl working that night was good too. With a couple of drinks the total bill was just under £25 so good value really. Looking forward to our next visit.

While traveling through Derbyshire on a cold winter night a friend and I stopped at the Manifold Inn to warm up and have a bite to eat. Since the forecast was for 3 to 5 inches of snow we weren't sure if we should stay or go on to Bakewell. After a very nice meal, good drink and good conversation with the staff we decided to stay. Everyone was so nice. The food wonderful. Our room was great. There is a previous description of the same room and I think the inn must have listened because there was plenty of light, heat and comfort. It was a beautiful snowy night and the next morning we had a wonderful full breakfast in the lovely breakfast room. I would be so lucky to be able to return some day. Thank you for a great memory and a wonderful evening.

We stopped for a light lunch and had Caesar salad and drinks. The place is smart, and we had a warm welcome. Beer was good, service prompt and courteous. Toilets clean. Food excellent and we had a relaxing stop on our journey to the Peak District.

Just a short note to say thank you to you and all your staff for such a warm welcome to the Manifold Inn. The whole team had a brilliant couple of nights stay and the log burning fire and lovely atmosphere in the cosy lounge were a great welcome from our return off the Roaches. In addition the food was excellent and everyone had a most enjoyable time.

Just got back from a weekend at the Manifold, although we found the staff to be friendly and efficient i,m afraid the Inn left a lot to be desired. Bedrooms are cold, decor tired, furniture antique and the beds most uncomfortable.
Food was quite good but the breakfast varied in quality and quantity, first morning very good, second morning dissapointing and the best was to be had on the day of leaving.
Showers and hot water from taps seems to be an ongoing problem as is the central heating, our room was redhot, yet the en-suite radiator never got hot at all, our friends in the neighbouring room, the heating never came on at all during the stay, however if they let their shower run for 5mins, they got hot water.

Room Tip: As previously stated, all rooms bar 6&7 are outside in converted buildings.

If a bedroom is cold the first thing to do is to turn up the radiator? Indeed, in the ensuite, the rad was turned off so it was very simple to remedy and hardly worth posting a poor review over?

Regarding the Antique furniture - they are meant to be Antique to reflect the fact that this is a 200 yr old inn. Im afraid we will never buy Ikea.

The only valid comment is that of the shower temperatures. When all 11 showers are demanded at once the boiler (and indeed most boilers) struggles at times. This system is being updated.

We stayed at the Manifold Inn for a short midweek break to look at the Dovedale and Manifold Valley area, for which it is in an excellent position being within 200 yards of the northern end of the Manifold Way. The place was well reviewed and had won several awards, including from TripAdvisor. It also had the advantage over just B&B that we could have evening meals without going out if we wished.

Everything was OK, but nothing outstanding, we did wonder if having won all the awards they had stopped trying. We were initially amused by the sign on the kitchen door..."If you dont like my cooking, then lower your standards" (or very similar words); well I have to say that a couple of times I had to do just that.

Breakfasts were good and I have to say that we did eat in on the 3 nights we were there. If you are a pie person, their steak and ale pie is ace, but do ask for extra gravy.

Would we stay again, yes we would, it was good but could so easily have been very good.

Oh did I say, mid week we got 3 nights for the price of 2.
