We chose Alexandra Beach because in the whole Greece brochure, this was the only hotel that had everything we wanted (family of 4, 2 girls aged 11 & 13) - location near a village rather than right in a town, near the beach, pool looked nice, rooms looked nice and had aircon included, and the spa facilities were a bonus but we didn't know if we would use it.
The journey was a little longer than we anticipated, but the ferry crossing fun. I would recommend tucking kid's swimsuits into your handbag because we arrived a couple of hours before our luggage, and it was a waste of the afternoon for them.
The hotel was fab though, the best we have stayed in, in Greece. I do think it deserves the 4 stars. The rooms were big and immaculate, even the bathroom was lovely, seemed brand new, with a powerful shower.
The restaurant food was a great way of trying loads of different greek food, and it was beautifully presented. I am vegetarian and there was plenty of choice. The kids always had a salad starter, found something for a main course that they liked, and finished up with several freshly made pancakes. There was always plenty of melon too which was popular.
The pool area was great, and kept very clean. Some people say there weren't enough sun beds but in August we found it fine - if you weren't up early enough to get one by the pool, there are plenty on the lawn, still overlooking the sea. We didn't find the bar expensive either - mainly during the day we were drinking water from the little shop on site.
There is an outdoor part of the restaurant which serves lunch (traditional kebabs, pizzas) or a taverna half way down the steps to the beach, where we often got some greek salad and half bottles of Rosé - we were in denial though because one was never enough! We went down to the taverna after dinner on occasion too and played cards overlooking the sea.
We were only there for a week and wanted to relax, so we didn't venture far, but we did go into both Potos and Pefkari - we preferred Pefkari because it was quieter, but Potos was fun for a wander around, a look in the shops and a couple of drinks.
We enjoyed the beach - yes it is a little shingly, but fine, and we went on one of those rides where you get dragged behind a boat on a huge inflatable, which was a bit of a highlight.
The kids found some friends, we all chilled out by the pool, we even took advantage of the spa and had a massage. All in all it was a great, relaxing week.
