This restaurant makes me sad. I've been going here for a good 20 years - they do fine poppadums, the curries are tasty and varied (some are a bit salty, I admit), the price is reasonable and the restaurant is clean and modern following a much needed refurb, although I do secretly miss the old flocked wallpaper and plastic flowers.
What elevates this place for me above the other Indian restaurant in Belvedere village, and all others I've tried (including in Southall and Brick Lane) is the naan breads. They are divine. I really want to find a place that beats them, and I'm still trying (such a hardship). I usually have something like a lamb saag and a peshwari naan and it's heavenly.
However, the staff do appear to be going out of their way to ruin this place. I will be gutted if it goes out of business, and if they do it will be entirely down to the staff. They seem deliberately oblivious when you want their attention, and strangely surly. If they just stuck the tall bald bloke in the kitchens and got someone cheery out front it would soon be packed out again.
I recommend putting your full order in in one go and ordering a couple of pints at a time. Then you have some chance of getting the best out of this restaurant, and won't be choking with rage by the time the After 8 mint & hot towels come out.
