Just came back yesterday arriving back to the snow made us wish we had gone for 2 weeks!! Neverlheless we had a great week at this resort. Our room was in the main building with an oceanview. It was a lovely room very clean, nice king size bed and roomy bathroom with a hair dryer and you can plug in your shaver or cell phone in there. They don't have transformers so no point in taking your own hair dryer or straighter or curler unless you have your own transformer. There is a fridge in the room which the maid will give you a bottle of water every day.
The resort is small only 300 rooms and it wasnt full but still a lot of people there, I would say half canadian and the rest Italian. The buffet is very nice, lots of variety, fresh juice, fruit etc. the chef will make you omelettes or a fried egg. There is cereal but the milk is very rich I think its goats milk not sure but it upset my stomach. The coffee is great too. We had lunch most days at the snack bar near the pool, they barbeque every day or at the ranchon near the beach is a nice lunch, also the ranchon is the al a carte at night and they serve amazing steaks or chicken. We went their twice, even though they say one a week they don't ask if you've been there before so you could go as many times as you want really.
We took the turtle trip for 4 pesos, it takes 5 mins to get there by the bus and your there about 2 hrs, there are a few shops and the marina is there.
We also went on the Catamaran trip which leaves at 2pm and returns at 8pm, this includes a lobster or chicken supper we had the lobster, very good. We snorkled, went to iguana island, they also stop for a regular swim and saw an amazing sunset. Definetly worth the 72 pesos.
If anyone dives the marina is where you go to meet the dive team. The diving is about 38 pesos, the more dives you do the cheaper it is, my husband went 3 times and it cost 117 pesos plus 6 pesos for the equipment. He said its the best diving he's ever seen in cuba. He saw giant baracudas, stingrays, moray eels, 4ft sharks, turtles, too many large fish to mention, dives include swimming thru coral.
One note about the beach if you have kids, some people are topless and further down the beach is "total nudity", if you dont want to see it then don't go down that end of the beach. The waves are high and most of the week was a yellow or red flag but you can go by this little train to the other beaches, paradisus or sirena, sirena has the beach toys hobby cats etc, paradisus has nothing just a small bar. Sirena beach is massive but its a long walk from getting off the train to the ocean walking on very soft sand - beleive me its hard work - we only went there once.
The pool is great just the right temperature and they have the usual activities aqua fitness, yoga, etc during the day.
The only thing we didnt like was the entertainment, it was very amateur and they seem to talk in spanish, french, italian and very little english so if you dont speak other languages its hard to know what's going on in the shows. We only really watched 2 of them and the 24 hr daquiri bar is right next to the outdoor theatre so its very noisy till the show finishes at 11 pm.
If your looking for rest and relaxation this is the place to be.
Thank you to Jenna55 who gave us lots of info from her trip.
