“Lovely Apartments”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2007

We really enjoyed our 6 nights at this lovely boutique hotel. The rooms were spacious and really nicely appointed. The setting is lovely with views across the valley, and the location is really good for accessing Chianti and other areas of tuscany. There are some good resturants nearby for dinner as the hotel doesnt serve dinner. You absolutely need a car when staying pretty much anywhere in tuscany. Its about 25 minutes by car to the nearest train station at Montevachi, where you can head to Florence for the day. We found the staff were really helpful and went out of their way with requests, such as finding a sports bar to watch the Rugby world cup (not easy in rural tuscany on a saturday afternoon), and leaving a bottle of prosecco for us one our wedding anniversary. The biggest complaint we had was the noise from the road traffic. It is situated on a corner close to the road and although it is a rural area it is also a main thoroughfare through to Arrezzo 20 mins away. Lying by the pool was not so restful. There were little things that could have made the stay more comfortable like having a hairdryer available and irons in the rooms etc (One was held at reception), and maybe tea, coffee and milk just for arrival as usually travellers have had a long journey there. All in all it was a lovely place to stay and would recommend it to use as a base to explore tuscany rather than a relaxing stay if you just want to sit by the pool.

  • Liked — Spacous modern and uncluttered
  • Disliked — The road noise

My two adult children and grandchildren and I stayed at this wonderful place for four days in August. The treatment we received from Michaela and Simone was absolutely terrific -- they worked very hard to make our stay there enjoyable, and they succeeded tremendously. Also, the accomodations were spacious and nice. This is one of those places where you take photographs of your room just so you can show them to family and friends after you get home! We had two adjoining apartments for our entourage of six. Each had a large bedroom, large living room with sofa bed, and roomy bathrooms. The garden and pool areas overlook a picturesque view of Tuscany. This is a family friendly place -- we had a 2 year old and an 11 year old -- and there was plenty of yard space and room for them to play. When you're on vacation with family sometimes the closeness can cause some testiness -- so, having the spacious apartments at this villa was key in defusing any notion of that. Besides, it was impossible to be grumpy with the family and kids when the setting was so beautiful and the people so friendly. I would definitely stay here again.

  • Liked — The attentive staff and beautiful accomodations.
  • Disliked — The internet connection was tenuous.
  • Tips/Secrets — Ask for apartment number 13.

Staying at the Villa Cassia was like living in a dreamworld where everything is beautiful and tasteful, and everyday stresses do not exist. The resident manager, Michaela, treated us exceptionally well, and was quick to recommend wonderful things to do. The nearby Il Borro is gorgeous, and the restaurant has outstanding food. I would return to Villa Cassia every year to lounge by the poolside if I could. The only slightly tricky part is getting there; you need a map and a car. It's truly not that hard to find, though. I cannot give this place a higher recommendation.

  • Liked — Staff, location, ambience
  • Disliked — only a tub in our room, although some rooms have showers
  • Tips/Secrets — Ask for a room with a shower. Also, the double with a balcony is amazing

My wife and I visited Villa Cassia Di Baccano this Summer. We loved it so much we are booking to stay again next year.

After being over-awed by beautiful architecture, museums (& the crowds) in Florence, it was such a pleasant few days in the heart of Tuscany.

Villa Cassia is a lovely, friendly hotel set in beautiful grounds. There are two buildings that look traditional Tuscany, but inside has all the modern features whilst retaining a rustic charm. The apartments (rather than rooms) are large and the bathrooms comfortable and have a great design.

The staff couldn't have been more helpful. They were really knowledgeable and bent-over-backwards to make sure our stay was memorable. They suggested some lovely local restaurants and villages to visit. We also went on a wine tasting tour which was fabulous. Chianti wine is simply wonderful when you drink it in situ and the right environment.

We went to the bridge from the Mona Lisa painting which was surreal, and then into the town of Arezzo. It was vibrant and a typical quintessential Tuscan town. Fantastic.

Villa Cassia was the perfect retreat. They even had a pool to chill by, and the views were stunning.

We stayed at the Villa Cassia di Baccano last month and loved it very much; it was our favorite during our trip in Italy.

The big red Villa is rather new, just opened in June 2004. It has 13 apartments, the one we got was quite spacious and had 2 floors. The living room was on the lower floor, as well as the entrance and access to a big balcony; the bedroom and the bathroom were located upstairs. We had a huge private balcony with gorgeous view of the area. We enjoyed looking at the sunset from the balcony.

The bed was very comfortable with large pillows. The bathroom would be better if it's a little bigger. We liked the design at the villa; it was modern but they also kept some parts/design of the original building.

The staff at the villa were the nicest people we met in Italy! They were extremely friendly and were eager to assist us in getting around / choosing restaurants.

The breakfast was very yummy, with croissant, bread, good yogurt, cereal, cold cuts, juice, milk, coffee/tea. Everyday we enjoyed our breakfast very much.

The villa also has a swimming pool, but we didn't get to try it out as it was a bit chilly when we were there.

Driving in Italy isn't as easy as the US, but after a while, you'll get used to looking for the right signs for your destination. We did spend about 20 min looking for the villa after we got to the area, but it was because we misinterpreted the directions. The villa is about an hour's drive from Florence and 1.5 hrs from Siena.
