“Living the Tuscan Dream”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

This is the perfect retreat for those who want to relax in the beautiful Tuscan countryside but with a short journey to local towns for a leisurely lunch/dinner.

Paul’s hospitality was excellent, only surpassed by his attention to detail from the colour co-ordinated glasses and soft furnishings to the scent diffusers and lavender surrounding the infinity pool.

We stayed with friends and felt completely at home which is not often the case in a B&B. Breakfast was a leisurely affair ranging from fresh fruit and yoghurt to local meats and cheese so there was something for everyone. We opted to “eat with the host” on a couple of the evenings which was a great way to relax in the lovely surroundings of the villa, both in and outside, and Paul’s cooking was complimented by his tried and tested wine collection.

Both the bedroom and the en-suite were spacious and well furnished, and all requests were fulfilled by Paul both promptly and effectively.

Whether relaxing by the pool, having a drink on the patio, or lounging on the sofas, the villa was perfect to meet all of our needs. We will definitely be visiting in the future.

Despite rain on arrival the villa looked absolutely stunning and as the sun came out at 5pm and we were outside drinking Prosecco it got even better. We stayed at Scanagallo with 2 other couples so used the B&B more like a Villa, it could have been an odd set up but worked perfectly. Paul was the ideal host and made our stay incredibly relaxing and comfortable. Not a detail is missed in the decor through to the dining experience. The rooms are stylishly neutral and have everything you would wish for/might have forgotten from a hair dryer to cotton wool. Breakfast, a feast of freshly baked pastries and breads, fresh fruit, meats and cheeses, was served when and where you like, great for my husband who normally misses the hotel breakfast cut off of 10am! The villa is in a great location to explore around Tuscany as it’s less than an hour to Siena and only 30 minutes to Montepulciano, however the infinity pool at Scanagallo is amazing and such a great sun spot that you might just want to spend most of your days chilling there like we did!

Room Tip: All rooms are stunning but one has a balcony and a double aspect view

I had high expectations based on the reviews I'd read, the photos I'd seen and the fact we had to book so far in advance. When we arrived at the villa, we were blown away by the setting, in particular, the amazing infinity pool. The proposition is a little unusual, in that it's a cross between a villa, a hotel and a b&b but it worked really well for our party of six. Paul (the owner) lives on site but we felt extremely welcome and it took no time for us to feel at home. Paul has an incredible eye for detail meaning that the villa is such a beautiful place to be. Indeed we didn't manage to visit many of the sites we'd planned to because the villa was such a sanctuary and Paul was such an excellent host. He cooked for us a welcome meal on the first day and then a further two times throughout the week. And you can't forget the breakfast which is freshly prepared each morning. There's an honesty bar with a wide range of drinks priced very reasonably. We quickly got used to having a Prosecco at 5pm (aperitivo time!) and we also enjoyed a number of very good wines.

I hope to return to Scannagallo possibly making it to Siena, Florence, Montalcino, all the places we decided against visiting in favour of enjoying the tranquillity of the Scannagallo's surroundings...though I can't guarantee we won't just end up lounging by that stunning infinity pool again....

Room Tip: All rooms are gorgeous but the largest one has a balcony and is triple aspect.

My mother, my friend and I went to this splendid B&B after a stop in Como. We are used to stay in a hotel but this was really an excellent experience. You have more flexibility, much more freedom and you can choose when you want to take your breakfast and where (inside, the pergola, the lounge outside). We enjoyed the nature, the environment and we relaxed. Villa Scannagallo is not far from the nice cities and we did some visits (to Siena, Firenze, Lucignano). We enjoyed the large infinity swimming pool. When the host explained us this was an infinity swimming pool we did not know what it was. But indeed when you go in the swimming pool you look in the infinity (there is no end). In the evening Paul served us some nice dishes with excellent wine and Prosecco. Unfortunately we had to leave after 1 week, it was a sad moment because the service was excellent. Congratulations for the neatness. Now spare some money and we can come back

It is now the second time that I went to this splendid B&B. The owners ( Paul and Ann) have done a lot of work in the winter. The already nice swimming pool is now tiled totally and there is a new deck, all in white and they added nice sunbeds of high quality. The swimming pool is even warmed with solar energy. Well done. The pergola is totally new, very nice to take your breakfast. The rooms freshly repainted, they added some nice features. It is very clean everywhere. The owners know very well what is service. This is a place where you can rest but also enjoy the nice things of live, nice food, nice wines. I already made a reservation for next year.

What can I say ??? We were the first guests of the season, but we were welcomed by Paul & Ann as if we were there all year. Their B&B is in fact a Villa designed with an excellent taste. You fell home immediately. The garden, the swimming pool, it is all amazing !! We were sad when we had to leave after 4 days :-(. Even 2 Vespa's are available and we made a fantastic tour ... Breakfast is delicious, very good prosecco and wine available at reasonable prices. If you want to visit this region in Tuscany, you HAVE to stay here, otherwise you will regret ... Congrats to Paul & Ann for their wonderful little paradise ...

Room Tip: all rooms are great :-)

Ann and Paul do everything to make their guests feel at home. They make it their goal to elevate their B & B above all others and with success. Each room is very tastefully decorated with attention to detail: neutral colors with the right color accents, pleasant lighting, quality towels and linens, a flower in the room, ... there are even reading glasses in different strengths! The luxurious breakfast served is of high standards with lots of variation. The bread and pastries are baked on the spot, the sent of fresh baked bread is welcoming you to the breakfast table every morning. The swimming pool, terrace and garden around the house are very well maintained and tastefully designed. It is really incredible that such quit places in the world still exist. Ann and Paul know the area well and therefor can recommend good addresses for a nice lunch / dinner or some sightseeing.

So, is it the best B&B ever? Without any doubt it is!
