Just returned from a perfect week at Agriturismo Bevingano. Farmhouse accommodations (we stayed in Casa Gesuina) were simple but perfectly adequate: comfortable bed, plenty of hot water and good pressure in the shower, thick stone walls that kept the rooms cool during the day, functional kitchen.
Alessio, our host, and his mother Rita have lived on "the farm" for decades and were great with advice about nearby restaurants and vineyards. We spent half of each day lounging by the pool, listening to the wind in the olive trees, playing with the dogs and eating cherries off the nearby trees. Cooking dinner outside on the grill one evening, we watched a large wild boar and her(?) seven offspring wander across the nearby lawn. We spotted more wild pigs and lots of deer on evening drives.
When making the reservations, I had been a bit concerned that Bevignano would be too remote -- it's 12km up the mountain from Monte San Savino -- but the roads are great and we did half-day trips to Sienna, Arezzo, Cortona, Montepulciano and the surrounding countryside with no hassle whatsoever. I fell in love with Monte itself, though, a lovely little walled town with great restaurants, a bustling Wednesday street market, excellent gelaterias and butcher shops and welcoming people. Will definitely return to the town and the farm.
