“Steve's a real gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

What a day we had! It had started badly with a dud car battery. Not a real problem as Steve was picking us up. He made a couple of calls during the day and by the time we returned after 12 hours with him our car was fixed. Now, that was a minor incident in his life. He regaled the 6 of us in his Land ruisetr wityh tales of Burke and Wills, life in the bush and the Lions chances as well as his (faint) hopes for the Ashes. He was unable to take us to Twin Falls but he did Baramundi instead. That was a short hike for a decent swim and then it was off to Jim Jim Falls. Spectacular would be an understatement. Steve told us of thye aboriginal tricks for survival, he lerd us ove rocks along the river humping a hige can of water and poicnics. Then he let us go on alone to the rockpool for another swim and those who didn't swim really missed out. The journey back was made with an amusing life story recorded a few years earlier of a pioneer in Woomera Rocket Range.

Hello runsinthefamily!

Oh dear, I just had a 'dud battery moment' and posted the reply meant for you to the wrong review...
Never mind, we can handle these things, especially when they're easy fixed!

What I was going to say was: Steve would have explained to you why Twin Falls wasn't accessible at the time. Mandatory crocodile surveys need to be completed before the essential infrastructure (boats and boardwalk) can be re-installed after the wet season.

But Maguk (Barramundi Gorge) would have been a destination equally as beautiful as early this dry season the gorge was so lush and green as we hadn't seen it in years!

Thanks again for travelling with us!

Kind regards
Anja Toms

“A must see in Kakadu. And a perfect way to see it!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013 via mobile

Our guide, and owner of the company Steve, was as knowledgable as one could hope for. No big tours. Just a maximum of 6 people, your guide and his 4wd and some of the most beautiful country you'll ever get to see.
Morning tea, lunch and swimming was just gorgeous! Even if you had your own 4wd I'd still recommend doing this tour..the local knowledge you get is just fantastic.
One of our definite Kakadu highlights and will recommend to all. Thanks Steve :)

Hello MrsEbonyRose,
Our sincere apologies that it has taken us so long to respond to your review...

We have made the decision earlier this year to go back to smaller vehicles -- which means smaller groups and even more personal tours. We're glad you enjoyed the day with Steve in Kakadu's great outdoors!

Happy travels!

“Great trip with great people”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013

We knew it was going to be a great day when we came across an olive python within minutes of turning onto the road to Jim Jim and Twin Falls. I usually don't like going on tours but this was perfect as it was a small group of people with a very laid back tour guide. Thanks Steve for a great experience. You have a wealth of knowledge and passion for the area and do everything possible to ensure your customers develop the same level of appreciation. I would not hesitate to recommend you to friends in the future. Keep working hard on those jokes!!!

Hi AshHarris611
It's been quite a while since July, our sincere apologies for not responding earlier...rest assured your feedback is much appreciated nonetheless!

Just like yourselves, we don't believe in tours 'of the rack'.
We love sharing our passion for Kakadu with a small and interested group of people.
Kakadu is so diverse, there's so much to talk about -- and we love the conversations (including some jokes), we wouldn't want to miss a single one of them!

Hope to see you back here one day!
Kind regards

“Awesome day!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2013

Thank you to Steve for showing us a truly wonderful part of our country! We had originally booked the tour to see Jim Jim Falls but unfortunately the road was closed so Steve took us to The Rock Hole, Gunlom Falls and Barramundi Gorge instead. Although we were disappointed about not seeing Jim Jim Falls we had a fantastic day and got to see some spectacular sights. Definitely recommend this tour as a must do of Kakadu.

Hello Leesa,
Thank you so much for writing this review as it is a great response to some frequently asked questions!

At the request of senior traditional owners, the Jim Jim area was closed for a number of days following the death of a visitor. The request was made as a mark of respect to those involved. Kakadu’s traditional owners feel a great sadness whenever somebody dies or is hurt on their country.

This temporary closure highlights the strong connection Bininj/Mungguy have with country and we feel privileged to be able to live and learn in such a spiritual place and share our knowledge with visitors.

If Jim Jim Falls and Twin Falls are closed, for seasonal or cultural reasons, your tour will still go ahead with an alternative itinerary. Kakadu is such a vast and diverse place, we always find worthwhile destinations to visit.

Ikoymarrwa (The Rockhole) has a very special place in our hearts, there's so much to see and to talk about at Maguk (Barramundi Gorge), it's so lush and green this year! And who wouldn't love Gunlom with its large plunge pool and spectacular views across the southern hills and ridges from the 'infinity pools' above the falls.

So glad you enjoyed the day exploring Kakadu's stone country with Steve!

Happy ans safe travels!

“Top End Explorer - Jim Jim Falls and Baramundi Gorge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

We were a group of 6 retirees who joined Steve on his 4WD trip to Baramundi Gorge ( because Twin Falls was not open) and Jim Jim Falls. What a fabulous day, great swimming at Baramundi, great views, lots of walking and lovely picnic lunch. Steve was a great host with lots of stories

Hello JLW434,
Thank you so much for travelling with us - and for taking the time to write a review.

To hear that you and your friends had a fabulous day visiting two of Kakadu's 'icons', enjoying the whole experience from walking through the shady rainforest at Maguk to listening to Steve's many stories (don't know how he keeps coming up with new ones..) puts big smiles on our faces.

Happy travels always!
