“WOW, what a place!!!!!!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

Our friends booked this after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor and it was WORTH it!
We had the Tranquility Apartment and cooked supper and sat outside by our beautiful pond.
Walked the beach the following day. Got some beautiful pictures from the area and have them framed and up in my house. Great memories!!!

Gerry was the best and let us use the lemons growing on his trees.

Very tempting to buy, as it was for sale.
Paradise!!!!!!!

Coastal Palms offers three options—the Bayview and Seaview Apartments are labelled “luxury”—the Tranquility is labelled an Apt.

We stayed in the Tranquility apt. which was within our price range. When we arrived Gerry offered us the Bayview luxury apt. for an additional $90/night. As the view of the bay was not essential we opted for Tranquility. Over the course of our holiday in New Zealand this was the highest price we paid for accommodation with the least satisfaction.

The positives: Gerry is an accommodating host. Friendly and easy to speak with. The property itself is well manicured and kept beautifully. The apartment was very clean and well organized. Good barbecue. Private.

The negatives: The apartment is disproportionate. Two large bedrooms which will sleep five. The bathroom is across from the kitchen (not sure how the “en suite” fits) and although adequate it is definitely not spacious. The kitchen may be classified as “self contained” and in effect with all the appliances it is—there just isn’t enough room to use the appliances easily and the small fridge is just that—small. Very very very tight kitchen, two people in here is definitely a crowd! Be prepared if you plan to cook.

Our recommendation would be if the view of the bay is essential upgrade to one of the other two apartments. If not, we think you could do much better in town.

We asked to use the sea kayak and Gerry was very agreeable. We were unable to locate him when we wanted to use it and thankfully so as the scenery in the Abel Tasman Park is so superior that renting a kayak there is well worth the cost. In addition, we used the barbecue but unfortunately it ran out of propane in the midst of cooking and we were unable to locate our host.

We stayed in eleven “self contained” apartments in New Zealand and would recommend all but this one.

We had booked for 4 nights but took one look at the location and the room and immediately added on 2 more. The Seaview room looks exactly as it does on the website and we loved it. It is bright and spacious with comfortable furnishings and looks out onto the beautiful Tasman Bay. Motueka is a lovely small town and we easily filled our time. There are a variety of good restaurants and 2 movies theatres showing good films. Our day in Abel Tasman Park using the Sea Shuttle taxi service was excellent. We highly recommend this company for the quality of their boats and for the fun and friendly staff. One day we went into Nelson, another day we drove west to Takaka, and twice we golfed at the Motueka Golf Course close by. The very best part was just relaxing "at home".

Much of the success of our stay was because of Jerry, the host. He provides great advice...restaurants, travel routes, etc, as requested. We are just sorry we live halfway round the planet so are unlikely to be back this way. But do take our advice and see it for yourself.

We stayed here last month right after our wedding and it was everything we hoped. To relax Jerry has thought of everything - books, DVDs, CDs. When you feel more energetic a swim in the water outside or a boat trip with a pretty hike - Jerry was happy to advise and guide us on everything. He was available whenever we had questions but ensured we had privacy at all other times- he has a real talent at hospitality. We particularly enjoyed the fresh lemons and oranges from the trees! Wonderful place in every way.

These apartments are immaculate and feel new, with very well kept gardens and nice appointments. The only down side was we stayed in the Tranquility Apartment with 5 people, whilst there was enough bedding we only had 3 chairs at the dining room table, and the kitchen was really too small to succesfully cook dinner for 5. The Tranquility Apartment does not have beach views (not sure if that was my mistake when making the booking), but it does have a very private beautifully presented courtyard.

Thank you for your comments, The Tranquility Apartment as stated on my website is suitable and comfortable for up to 4 guests (2 bedrooms ), however can sleep up to 5 in a sqeeze eg busy/ peak season when no other larger properties are available. These guests requested 1 queen bed and three other beds for children ,so we moved some of the furniture (including some extra chairs out of the apartment to fit in the extra bed ) to accommodate them. I also advised upon them booking the Tranquility Apt that is would be a tight fit for all of them in there , so i was suprised to see this comment when i was trying to do them a favour by offering something when it was peak season and lodgings difficult to find in this area. Anyway i think i have learnt something out of it , please refer to the previous comments on this site in regard to 2 couples sharing the Tranquility Apt . Also there is out door dining / 4 chairs and a BBQ on the deck . I apologise to these guests for the inconvenience caused and wished they had let me know and i could of tried to source a bigger place for them . Kind regards Jerry (owner)

My husband and I have stayed at Coastal Palms for 3 nights. We got married at Abel Tasman National Park. We couldn't have picked a better place for our wedding weekend. We stayed in the seaview apartment and it's a thousand times better than you could show on a picture. Jerry was absolutely phantastic and he's such a nice person. He knows all the good things to do and is always there to help. The view, the apartment, Jerry - that's all you need when you stay around Motueka. Go and book yourself in!!!!!
