My husband and I did the AB Fab Paddle and Walk in early December. Kate, our guide, picked us up at our Holiday Park promptly at 8:45am and took us on our way. Only one other couple to pick up and we were at the loading area. It's quite a sight to see the water taxi on a trailer, loaded with people and kayaks being pulled by a tractor out the sandbar! Our activity included paddling around Tonga Island's seal colony and down the shore to Bark Bay. We were treated to lunch and then took off on our own to hike the high-tide route to Anchorage Bay. Everything was well organized. We got to Anchorage Bay a bit ahead of schedule and it started drizzling. One of the skippers (and I so wish I had gotten his name!) said it was no problem to take us. When we got back to the loading area at Marahau, we asked how we might get back to Old Mac's. He grabbed a van and drove us back himself! Talk about New Zealand Hospitality! If you aren't used to kayaking, stick to a half-day paddle. I'm in pretty good shape but my arms were so tired, I'm glad we took the half-n-half option. The hike was in the best part of the park and was so worth it.
