“Charming waitress”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

I would go back to this restaurant just to meet the waitress again. She was so pleasant and friendly and even cooled my coffee for me. It was a very large portion of fish and the quality of the food was excellent. The price was reasonable and the service very good. The background music (Christmas) was suitably subdued and pleasant to listen to.

“Take away for two happy customers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

After reading some of the reviews and not being from the area, we were a little apprehensive but our visit to the take away side was very positive. yes the service wasn't exactly sparkling but was welcoming and the food was fine, the fish was cooked to order and tasted very fresh, the chips were good, the curry was top notch and the portion size was very generous. Ok it was a little greasy but it's fried fish and chips so what do you expect?! We did notice it was an additional £2 to eat in the restaurant so we opted for take away. I would certainly go there again and would recommend to family and friends.

“Simply the best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2012

This has to be the best fish and chip restaurant in the world! We went for lunch today and cannot fault it. There is plenty of choice and the food is freshly cooked, just don't ask for a large one unless you are VERY hungry! Do try it next time you are in Redcar; I'm sure you'll go back again and again.

“Food okay but waiting time isn't acceptable”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

It's a couple of years since we last ate at Russell's so we returned last weekend on a visit to Redcar and were more than pleasantly surprised by it's internal redecoration....very tasteful and more of an upmarket feel to it.

We opted to sit upstairs as there wasn't a great deal of room downstairs. Our order was taken promptly and our drinks were brought to us and then we waited for our food to arrive. And waited.....and waited!

Given that there is a takeaway side to the restaurant, food is constantly being cooked and the expectation is that you won't have long to wait. What the management appear to have forgotten is that your customer's sitting-in are paying more for their food than takeaway customers. Therefore it makes sense to keep them happy and serve them within an appropriate time rather than ignoring them and serving takeaway customers!

Over half an hour from our order being taken we were without food and if we'd been in a restaurant where food was cooked from scratch to order I could have understood it but our order was very straightforward. We had to ask where our food was, we were told they were busy. My Mum said that if the food wasn't there within 5 minutes we were cancelling our order.

Amazingly our food appeared within the 5 minutes. It was okay, nothing to write home about...just okay and in my opinion, not worth the wait and not worth the bill at the end either! Next time we'll be going elsewhere!
