“Cosy and friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

I'm a Bulgarian and I stayed at Boars Head for a week because I participated in a EU project. The accommodation was superb - cosy, warm room, comfortable bed and pillow, very clean and quiet place. Breakfast was huge and delicious, there was a variety to choose from; even the last day they provided us with take-away for the trip. All the staff were friendly and hospitable; Darren made us feel welcome to the gorgeous Shropshire. If you want to explore the marvellous English-Welsh land and stay at an excellent place, I recommend Bishops Castle and Boars Head Hotel.

My husband and I have just stayed at the Boars Head for 2 nights b and b. It was a lovely quiet room, comfy bed and lovely breakfast. As we went for long walks during the day we also chose to have our 2 evening meals there which were huge and equally delicious. The staff were welcoming and helpful. We will be back.

Just arrived home from a wonderful stay at The Boars Head. The rooms are very clean, warm and spacious and very unique as they are converted barns with beautiful open oak beams. The bed was perhaps the most comfy I have ever stayed in and myself and family had a fantastic nights sleep. We ate dinner and breakfast during our stay and cannot fault the food or the service. Both Darren and Stuart were extremely welcoming and attentive during our stay. We ate at 6pm and planned on going back to the room after our meal but when we looked at our watches it was 11pm as we had spent a couple of happy hours in front of a roaring fire sampling fine beer and wine. We will definately be returning.

After reading some of the reviews we were a little apprehensive about staying here. However, the service was excellent from start to finish. The room we stayed in had a single bed and a double, the mattresses were a little soft for us, however, that's our personal preference. The room was large and spacious with a good supply of tea and coffee, a fridge, a safe, and a tv. The bathroom was spacious and well stocked with nice toiletries and towels. A plus point is that the rooms are separate from the pub/restaurant so after walking we didn't have to go through the pub in order to get to our rooms.

We were charged exactly what we were expecting (£20 per person per night). We chose to take breakfast in the hotel which was £7.50 per person and consisted of tea/coffee, help yourself to juice and cereal, toast and we chosethe full English. Full cooked breakfast for vegetarians as well.

I would definately stay here again and would recommend it to anyone.

1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

My partner had booked a twin room for Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th November as a birthday treat. The was booking was made a month in advance via Laterooms and the booking confirmed by Laterooms a few days before we travelled down. When we arrived we were informed by a man named Stuart that the room had been double booked and therefore we had no room, this dispite the fact that all of the rooms were unoccupied at this point. I asked how it was possible for this to happen as I could see that Stuart had an email from laterooms confirming the booking with the hotel. Stuart tried several several lame excuses each of which fell apart when I questioned the details. He then stated that he had known for several days that the room was double booked but as he had an alternative hotel we could stay at he hadn't bothered to contact us. Stuart then produced a chip and pin machine and asked us to pay for the new hotel. We refused asking to see the hotel before we made any payment (Boy were we glad we made this decision) The aternative when we were taken to see it was of considerably inferior quality NO STARS, compared with the 4 STARS we had booked, no flatscreen tv, dvd, fridge etc but the same price as The Boars Head. We of course refused this accomodation and were then informed by Stuart that he had done all that was required by offering us an alternative and we were left 100 miles from home, to try and find accomodation which at such short notice proved impossible.
I strongly urge you to AVOID this establishment at all costs unless you want to play the Boars Head room availability Lottery.

I have come to realise that customers who behave badly use trip advisor in an attempt to discredit you and rubbish your busines but here is my reply to this shall we be nice and say less than honest review................................ It is true that this couple came to us via late rooms and that unfortuantely due to our rural location on the day they booked our internet was down whcih meant we had a duplicate booking causing us to be 1 room over booked. Late rooms policy with the accomodation provider is that if this happens you are oblidged to seek an alternative place to stay of a similar standard and inform the guest upon arrival. Stuart my partner did so by making reservations at a local b&b that is rated 3 crowns by the English Tourist Board, many of our visitors have chosen to stay there and we recommend it in the event that we are full so I am very familiar with this property only 2 minutes walk from ourselves, and they offer a great stay in a lovely building with great service and good hospitality! Which leads me onto what type of people we are talking about, and they are more suited to a travelodge than a rural b&b that excudes charachter they turned there nose up at this alternative accomodation because it had just to much going for it and they quite frankly were not apprecaited of its qulaties. They contacted late rooms who inturn called us and advised us that they were still sat in our car park so we offred them a second pot of tea and advised late rooms that we would try and find somewhere else, at which point we were told that we had met with late rooms policy and that we did not have to do anything else as the customer had turned down 1 suitable alternative already, but my partner Stuart was most insistant that we try and help this couple again but to our amazement despite late rooms still being on the telephone with the guests who were claiming they were still in our car park we waited for there return and then went out to see them and guess what they had gone driven off and nowhere to be seen. A this point late rooms noted there account as being difficult and cancelled there reservation with us. I am 22 years in hospitality and have awards for customer service, we are fully booked more than 73% of the year and considering that look how many bad reviews there are and arrive at a decision yourself. Bad people use this site to try and rubbish all your hard work, well guess what it doesnt work!
