“A Clean Well-Lighted Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

After piloting my rented, gigantic four-wheel-drive truck from San Juan through the highways and rural roads of the Puerto Rican night, the warm light, teak, and fresh air of Copamarina greeted me. Relaxing Caribbean music ebbed from the restaurant and bar, and I soon found myself seated for an outstanding dinner. The cocktails were well made, the dinner was fantastic, and the wine selection suited my needs perfectly. Throughout my stay, regardless of the meal, the food, cocktail program, and service exceeded my expectations. Great seafood was always available.

The pool stays open late and I enjoyed an after-dinner dip under the stars, with only a few other aquatic night owls sharing the space. Retiring to my simply appointed but comfortable room, I fell asleep to the sound of waves crashing on the beach. Upon waking, daylight revealed that my patio opened to an expansive lawn with views to the beach cabanas, the ocean, and the pools. There are resort activities, including an excursion to Gilligan's Island, which is worth the trip.

The staff deserves mention as being very friendly, available, and professional. It appears that the people working at the resort enjoy it.

The aura permeating this place is one of relaxation. This was where I felt most laid back during my trip, which threaded through several areas of Puerto Rico. I highly recommend this place and would not hesitate to return.

A nice resort hotel, in a quiet and beautiful waterfront location. Friendly helpful staff, very nice good quality food and drinks n the cafe, with an especially good white sauce Mofongo with Grouper!
It's not cheap for the facilities on offer, the rooms are clean and comfortable, but pretty basic if truth be known. At this price one might expect a complimentary breakfast, but it's an a la carte pay as you go (albeit very good). We stayed three nights, which was enough to do and see all we wanted in the area.

We left happy, but feeling a little underwhelmed.

Room Tip: Beach view of any sort....

Great hotel in front of the Caribbean Ocean. Take the boat to Guilligan Island for a day on the beach. My kids had a great time. You can rent kayaks. All the rooms have view to the gardens and ocean. Has two pools and two kids pools. The food is excelent. Try the mofongo with dorado .... amazing!!

We stayed here for 3 nights over a weekend last week. The setting cannot be faulted. A superb private beach in a secluded bay with very calm and crystal clear waters. The view from a beachfront room was amazing.

The staff are very friendly. This is an excellent resort for water sports and we can highly recommend the kayak rental out to Gilligan's Island. It was a trip highlight for us and so beautiful (worth taking snorkelling gear out with you as well).

Some minor annoyances made it fall just below perfect. The WiFi was very inconsistent when the hotel was busy, shower never really got past warm to hot being hot and it took over a day for a requested iron/iron board to appear.

However, these were minor quibbles compared to the great time we had here and we would definitely stay again. The locals pack this place out on weekends and that can only be a good sign!

Room Tip: Beach front rooms fantastic.

As an aside, I normally like full service resorts. Go ahead and judge me as snotty - I'm just being up front. This resort is not full service. There is no 24-hour anything. There is virtually no room service. Its location is remote. There is no flash or sass here. That being said: I. Loved. This. Place. It is delightfully unpretentious. This resort is peaceful, totally relaxing, utterly comfortable, and the water on this side of the island is stunning.

They have an open-air lobby that feels juuust right, setting the mood for the whole resort: laid back. Settle down before you check in. The rooms are a solid 3 stars. Nothing fancy. You will have basic everything. But everything. And the rooms are clean. Big bonus: every room is mere steps from the sandy beach which you will get to by walking around a pool. There are several pools on the property which are spread out and each nicely laid out, giving you an option for as much or as little interaction as you want. Restaurants: Just 2. Breakfast is served at the al fresco bar buffet style. Decent options. Daytime pool/beach menu pickins' were served from the same location. Also decent. The wait staff and bartenders were all fun and personable. There is a nice dinner restaurant on site that is worth checking out if you feel for it.

No "thing" wowed me here. My wow factor was the vibe: chill, relax, and hang out. I've traveled all over Puerto Rico over the years and Copamarina was the most relaxing place I have spent time at.

Second note: We attended the super fun wedding of some dear friends at the Copamarina, our reason for our stay here. The reception/dinner was held in their banquet hall which is super private, intimate and likerighton the beach. Reception was nicely done. Dinner: Food and service were fantastic. If you are looking for a laid back, beachside wedding: Our friends nailed it with this choice. And it's affordable for many budgets.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff was pleasant and attentive. The multiple pools were nice. It kept the place from feeling crowded and helped give the resort a nice relaxing vibe. You can wander from one pool or bar to another while remaining very safe. I even saw someone had left their laptop unattended. We ate at their restaurant twice. Lunch was awesome. Dinner was pretty good (buy pricey). The rooms were clean and the decor was kind of vintage tropical. It wasn't old or outdated feeling though. The very tall, old coconut palms added to the feeling of being at a nice beach resort in the 60's. I wasn't alive in the 60's, but I imagined that this is what it would have been like.

My favorite part was lounging in the pool, looking out at the beach, while were were brought our drinks. It was the best of being at the beach, being at the pool (but with the ocean view), and being at a bar. All of the good aspects about each of those without the bad.

Overall, if you want to relax and you're not on a tight budget, this place may be for you. It is rather secluded (as in you have to drive if you want to leave), but the resort offers everything from food and drinks to a well stocked gift shop, so you really don't need to.

I have family that lives a little less than a half hour from Copamarina Beach Resort in Guanica. It is very difficult to find good hotels for a reasonable rate in Puerto Rico but essential because I need a place to stay while visiting my relatives.

I stayed at Copamarina for the first time in August 2007 and then again in September 2012. This is a place in which I will continuously return. It is so far removed from anything else; it's a tranquil getaway for the whole family to enjoy. The landscape is breathtaking. They have a great pool and hot tub. You can also rent fun things to use on the beach which is steps away from the pool. The main beach is not the best, you're better off travelling down the road OR taking their free boat to the crystal clear water on Gilligan's Island. I've gone to Gilligan's since I was a kid--it's a great spot for snorkeling.

Let me just break it down for you so you can decide if this hotel is right for you.

PROS: Beautiful scenery, clean rooms, free boat to Gilligan's Island, Good WiFi, Good Air Conditioning, Friendly staff
CONS: Not the greatest main beach for swimming, Expensive food with little options (you have to drive about 10 minutes to get to a Burger King at the bottom of the mountain)

Overall great hotel. I recommend it.
