The owners of Katelios Studios, Aris and Lula, are amazing hosts. I have read some negative comments about them and really find them very difficult to believe. The service and welcome you receive is second to none.
The rooms are basic but what else do you need when you go to the sun, other than a place to wash and lay your head. The rooms are cleaned and the bed linen changed every 2 or 3 days.
Katelios itself boasts a wonderful array of tavernas which serve up mouth watering food particularly the fish dishes (not my favourite, but hey ho!). The village is very quiet and peaceful and the local people are very welcoming.
This was our 6th visit to these studios and it certainly won't be our last and the main reason for our return are the hosts.

This was not our first time in Katelios as a resort, but it was the first time at Katelios Studios. After reading one or two negative reports about the complex we were a little worried, but what the hey - if its that bad there are plenty of places we could move to if necessary.

It seem earlier reports of a poor show may have been greatly exaggerated

We arrived under our own steam from the airport (not wishing to be on the transfer coach) and we were met by Aristides (Ari or Aris to most) who was expecting us and knew we were 'the people for appartment 8' and gave us a very warm welcome.
The apartment/studio is basically the same as every other Greek self catering studio I have been to - 2 beds, wc with shower, sink, fridge, 2 hotplates, kettle, mixed crockery and cutlery (added benefit of sandwich toaster). All perfectly adequate for making breakfasts, picnics and snacks.

Room was cleaned, linen changed and bins emptied a couple of times in the week.

The pool is lovely and has plenty of loungers and 'brollys.

Contrary to earlier reports, even though we used the pool bar very little, and then only for a couple of soft drinks during the day, Aris was a very pleasant host with a smile, a wave and a 'yassou' each time we saw him.
Loula, his wife seems to be a non stop bundle of energy cleaning, tidying fetching and carrying and yet still has time to smile, wave and a 'kali mera' for everyone.

Katelios is a wonderful little resort, I have spent about 16 weeks holiday there over the last 20 years. Try different tavernas on the front or on the main road, they are ALL good, the best thing is trying them and finding this out for yourself. Visit Nemesis bar - OK it can be a little loud sometimes but Denise and Nico will look after you well, if you want a quieter drink go and see Sharon at Aliti's Bar.
From Breakfast with Christine and Panagi at Dreams beach bar to a late (sometimes VERY late) drink with Sharon Katelios is a great resort.
But don't forget the rest of the island, get a car - go sightseeing

I feel the need to write a review, after reading trip advisor, I was really nervous about staying here, but my holiday was booked.
I was very surprised by the room, it was very clean and more than meet my needs and requirements. We paid for air con and safety deposit key, as both are good, specially as it was mid 30's most the week!!!

We visited most stuios in the local area and meet many people, yet we were very happy with our studio. Harry was always pleasant and informative, easy to talk too and we got on well. The guy puts some hours in and works hard!!!

I have my own business , so I look at things always differently, and because of the welcome and the effort put in, we match that with spending some money to support his business and many others on the island. We go on holiday to have fun, enjoy our selfs and NOT cook, so we ate every time out, Jerry's down the road is amazing, and you get a great Hot Dog or Bacon Toastie and Katelios Studios..... Great way to start the day...

Dont be put off by comments on here, you get out of life what you put in, if you go on holiday to moan and not embrace everything and life over there, then expect a bad time!!

We loved it and are planning to go back in September ....

My partner and I visited these studios through Olympic Holidays in June 2009. We were told, as it was both of our birthdays, that we would get a warm welcome and be spoilt by Aris, the chap who runs the accommodation.
The rooms themselves are basic but quiet enough, apart from the fact that there is a large hotel being built about 10 metres from the rooms and a relatively noisy road close by. The main problem is Aris, as soon as he realised that we were not drinking (in his exceptionally poorly stocked) bar of an evening, preferring instead to visit the Tavernas on the seafront, then he became surly and sulky.

In fact on our penultimate night he started an argument with him when I questioned (terribly politely I can assure you) why we were being charged for the safe key when nobody had told us there was a charge. He waved his fists at me, knocked over a table and a chair and told me to get out of his accommodation there and then. My partner and I were terrified that he was going to 'evict us' when he went out that evening.

He really is unpleasant and ruined our holiday. There are much nicer places to stay with nicer hosts I'm sure. As for the rest of Kefalonia, the island is beautiful, the sea gorgeous and the people absolutely lovely.

My partner and I arrived at these apartments about 23.30 to a wonderful greeting from the owner Aris. Everything looked wonderful,it was warm and all the other residents were seated around the pool, enjoying a balmy evening. They were warm and friendly and invited us to sit with them.
They were a great bunch of people and all without exception had been staying there for 15yrs plus. We thought we'd cracked it!!!!
We had a wonderful holiday and great weather but there were downsides.
Aris is very moody and only has time for his long term residents, or if you are prepared to spend loads at his snack bar. His bar prices are unpredictable and we generally tried to avoid him after he was rude to my partner. His wife Lula is lovely and never stops working(something Aris doesn't do)
The accommodation is very clean and quite large but the beds were so noisy and unstable we had to move our mattresses to the floor. We should have complained but didn't want any confrontation with the owner.
The cooking facilities are virtually non existent, so don't expect to cook there. We managed fried egg on bread( no toaster) a couple of days ,or cold meats and salad but you can't do more.
The island is beautiful and I can't fault it as a destination. I just wouldn't stay at these studios again.
Nearly all the restaurants are good down at the harbor but we avoided Nemisis after reading the reviews. Jerry's at the top of the hill serves great food but the service is very slow because they won't employ enough staff, and one night after an hour and a half they told us they'd lost our order, so we walked out and didn't go back. Katelios tavern run by Sadie and her husband - bottom of hill turn right and at the end ,is good food and warm welcome, they also look after their regulars.
If your hiring a car, you can't do better than Venus owned by Costos. He's lovely and very reasonable and just across the road from the studios.
Please don't be put off by the negative comments, we really did have a lovely time and thoroughly relaxed and enjoyed ourselves.

Just returned from staying 2 weeks at the Katelios Studios and it was one of the most relaxing and quiet holidays we've had. The pool was lovely and plenty of beds and parasols for everyone. Most of the time we had the pool to ourselves. Great place to stay for couples. The room was typical Greek accommodation in that it is minimal but the linen and towels were changed regularly and very clean. Why though, don't the Greeks ever put a hook on the wall for the shower??? Its soooooo awkward having a shower with one hand! Our apartment needed a little bit of maintenance, I would say, maybe a change of kitchen cupboard and a new fridge! We spent the whole 2 weeks with a fridge which just about kept the water and beer cold, Vengelis the owners son said he'd fix it, but it made no difference. I agree with the previous review whereby they said the owner Aris, was quite rude and unhelpful! We noticed he was OK to the people spending money at the bar and to the guests who have returned year after year. (Quite 'clicky' in that respect. ) He even disappeared on our last morning when we were waiting for the coach to the airport so he didn't have to say goodbye. The building work opposite was a little disturbing at 7.30 in the morning but it wasnt that much of a problem, although i cant see why that kind of building work cant be done in the winter. Dont whatever you do go to Nemesis Bar along the road towards the town. The owners there were absolutely thoroughly the rudest people i have met in my life. The place had it all - big screens, giant jenga and conect 4, but it was dark dingy inside and full of flies and expensive. The owners were the most unfriendly people you would have the misfortune to meet. It spoilt our last afternoon by going in there - advise you keep away. Katelios Taverna was the best place to eat and very friendly and welcoming. All in all, it was a lovely holiday - perfect for couples.

This accommodation consists of 16 units, 8 on the groud floor with access to the garden and 8 on the first floor with a balcony. The atmosphere is friendly as you would expect with a small hotel and the owners Aris and Lula with do anything they can for you. The accommodation is clean and tidy as is the garden and pool. For a small hotel the pool is large with more than sufficient sunbeds to go around. Most of the visitors to this accommodation are repeat visitors of long standing. The kitchen is sufficient for basic meal prep and consists of 2 ring hob, standard size fridge with freezer compartment, sandwich toastie maker, kettle , pots, pans and plates etc.The bathroom again is basic and sufficient with an interesting hand held shower. No paper is to be put down the toilet so my tip is to take some plastic nappy bags for your paper.
The accomodation is well placed on the main road into Katelios and the local beach which is about a 10 minute stroll away. There are restaurants and a supermarket within a minutes walk.
Visitors should note that there is a new hotel complex being built at the side of this accommodation which was not pointed out by the tour operator. There is some noise but this should not put visitors off. This will also impact on other accommodation in the area namely the Eryphillis.
You will get a decent meal where ever you go and you just need to try them out. You will have heard of Greek Maybe Time(GMT) and this extends to eating out. One tip is when your table is cleared ask for your bill then.In all the restaurants we visited we were given either a free cake, soft drink, brandy or ½ ltr of wine with the bill. For 2 main meals and drinks you will pay between 20 and 30 euros including service charge and tip (£18-25).
For those of you who enjoy short walks Kamina beach is a must visit and is about 45 minutes from the accommodation. Go to the beach front in Katelios turn left, over the head land at the end of the beach and 15-20 mintes brings you to Kamina beach (follow the plastic bags on the bushes). The first set of sunbeds you come to(blue and yellow) are run by George and cost 5 euros for 2 beds and a umbrella all day (tell him Julie and Mark said hello). The sand is fine and the sea very shallow for about 75 yards which is great for kids. The beach is very long and stretches to Skala if you have the energy. Vistors from other areas have commented that they consider this beach to be the best on Kefalonia. You also have a view of Zante from this beach. If you don’t take you own picnic there is a Taverna half way along the beach. You can also access this beach by car. NOTE:- If you intend to do this walk take some walking shoes or trainers not flip flops.
We only did the 1 day Island tour which was excellent. Having done this tour we decided not to hire a car and instead decided to relax on Kamina beach for most of our stay. When enquiring into hiring a car I had to smile when one hirers insurance did not cover you for driving on the wrong side of the road! Does that mean you are not insured when you overtake!
