“Happy holiday at Alkioni”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

We picked the Alkioni and Katelios village because we wanted a simple, quiet, peaceful place to base ourselves to explore Kefalonia in our little hire car. Hotel is very clean. You can hear birds singing and a cow mooing in the distance. A lovely pool which was always quiet, many guests seem to go out and about. Only a 5 minute walk into the village where the beach and great tavernas are, so you do not need to drive out in evenings. Two supermarkets and a bakery a short walk away. Try the custard pie with filo pastry! View from balcony was over the tree tops and roof tops to the sea in the distance. It was also a good spot to sit and have a drink and watch people walk past on the road into village. Breakfast was simple, exactly the same every day which was dull, it was basic toast, a slice of cake, one juice and one coffee or tea each, but to be fair, we ate well each evening so didn't need a fancy breakfast! It was a nice hotel for the cost in a nice location. Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice base to explore from.

We had a great trip to Kateleios and we are so pleased with our stay at Alkioni! Our stay at the hotell gave us a convenient vacation, I dont have any complaints. The staff is friendly and helpful. The hotell has a fine pool area and a nice green garden. The room was clean and fresch, with equipped kitchen, wi-fi and air condition. The location of the hotell is just the best, 5 min walk to the beach, tavernas and supermarket, but still a peaceful place without big traffic roads. I recommend Alkioni for your Kefalonia trip!

We stayed one week in Alkioni from 17 June until 24 June 2013. The hotel is located appr. 30 minutes by car from the airport and 40 minutes from Agostoli. Pay attention, local public transport is very week in Kefalonia and you have to book a car if you want to see something of the island. We preferred Pefanis which is one of the cheapest and most reliable companies. Hotel Alkioni is a nice hotel, located cca. 300 meters from the coast (thus, the windows do not face the sea what is readable in few descriptions). The rooms are clean, towels and beddings are changed regularly during your stay. Air condation is free of charge. Rooms are equipped with cooking facilities and fridge! There is a swimming pool in the garden which is one of the most positives things in the hotel (it can be used until 9 pm). Sunbeds and umbrellas are also free of charge. There is no tv in the room but who cares? There is a BBQ built-in but unfortunately it is not allowed to use it. Katelios beach is average, there are many better beaches in Kefalonia, therefore do not dwell much here if you have a car. The continental breakfast was very simple and recurrent, actually it was a shame (1 glass orange juice, 2 toasts, 2 mini butter, jelly and honey every day). Prepare yourself, there are mosquitos in the hotel, especially in the night if you keep the windows open. Parking is free of charge at the hotel. The staff is helpful, they tried to solve any problems as quick as possible, but they are not very pally. There are many good and not too expensive restaurants at the beach. Actually, prices in Kefalonia are obviously higher than in Hungary, which is probably due to many British people vacationing on the island. Best beaches on the island: Ammos, Myrtos, Petani, Antisamos, George at Hotel Portoskala, Koroni and a small beach between Pessada and Spartia. If you travel to myrtos beach, take the road via Razata and Drakata, it is the best quality road in the middle of the island! Best places to visit: Assos, Kastro, Monastery of Agios Gerasimou, Lake Melissani, panorama from the mountain Aenos. Biggest disappointment: the coast between Poros and Skala (except of the small George beach at Portoskala).

Room Tip: All the rooms face to the South, towards the sea, however without a real prospect to the sea (possib...

We have just returned from two weeks at the Alkioni which was recommended to us by my sister who had a holiday there last year. She was certainly not exaggerating when she said how spotlessly clean the rooms were and how helpful and friendly Jacqueline and her husband Spiros (the owners) were. Nothing was too much trouble and the apartment we had was a very good size with a huge balcony and free air conditioning. The bed was very comfortable and was changed three times whilst we were there. My husband loved the pool and it was so quiet and peaceful, all you could hear were the birds, this is certainly the place to come if you want to relax and chill out. Katelios village itself is unique, wonderful Greek restaurants along the front facing the small harbour. The food they offer is typically Greek and absolutey delicious. There is no kareoke, no bingo, no pubs with the inevitable "Del Boy" playing constantly, just peace and quiet whilst you eat your evening meal together with their very good wine, (the rose is particularly good)! There are two small supermarkets which meet your every need, a bakery which has a delicious selection of sweet and savoury products, and a little bar where we would call every evening on the way home which is run by a British girl, Sharon who can make any cocktail you wish to mention. This is not the place to come if you are looking for a golden beach, there are pebbles and some seaweed but the water is clear and you can always find somewhere to lay your towel. There are a few sunbeds on the beach near the harbour in front of some restaurants and you only have to buy a drink and you can use them, but as I said the beach is nothing to write home about. We did not hire a car but people who we met who did said they found some lovely sandy beaches not far from the village but not within walking distance. All in all we had a wonderful holiday and I would thoroughly recommend both the village of Katelios and the Alkioni hotel if you want to find a little corner of the traditional Greece, and you want peace, relaxation and a very laid back atmosphere.

Room Tip: All the rooms look over the pool but the ones on the top floor have a fabulous view over to Zante.

My husband and I have just returned from two weeks at The Alkioni. This was our first time early in the year as we usually visit September/October. The weather was still more than kind to us and still to our liking the island was reasonably quiet. As ever the Alkioni is still extremely clean - beds being changed at least three times during our stay and fresh towels every couple of days. On arrival we where greated with beautiful roses in the room from the lovely garden. As ever Jacqui is her wonderful and helpful self, Spiros still a man of few words unless you get him on the subject of politics and the delightful Marianne. These three people go out of their way to make you feel welcome and at home. Some things were a little lacking in our room - mainly a toilet seat - we had a lid - and a sharp knife and teaspoons but within half hour of mentioning this to Jacqui we had everything. If you want cutlery and crockery that match and luxury then dont stay here but if you want a holiday in a beautiful setting, in a clean and comfortable room with staff who go out of their way to help you then you cant go wrong staying here. We love the relaxed atmosphere of this charming place and will be back again in the not too distant future. Many thanks Jacqui, Spiros and Marianne for making our holiday just that bit more special.

Room Tip: We have mentioned before about the two best rooms in our opinion but we are not going to give out th...

Thank you for allowing us to enjoy a lovely afternoon by your pool whilst we were 'homeless' in Ketalios as we had had to check out of our room at another hotel by 1 pm and our taxi was not due until 6 pm...you are kind people and we will certainly be back to stay with you...

Stayed here for a week in the middle of May 2013.

We took our 2 year old boy with us and he loved it especially the pool.

The room was as you would expect in a Greek hotel/apartment complex. Everything you need but maybe not everything working as you would like it. Very clean though and the cleaner would clean every day.

The owners were great and provided a nice breakfast for us every morning of toast, cakes and tea/coffee and juice.

The pool was brilliant with a shallow part for children to paddle and splash but be aware it goes awfully deep after a couple of metres.

Overall a lovely place to stay.
