“This hotel should not have 4 stars, it urgently needs a serious refurb, it's extremely dated and seriously over-priced!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2009

This hotel is in a terrific location, however everything else was a great disappointment. This is a 4star rated hotel, how?? It's in desperate need of a complete overhaul. The rooms were very basic and the air con was useless, tired and old, The bathrooms were way too small. The furnishings and wiring were very 70's!! The pool area was great, a lovely large salt water pool but the poolside showers were in need of a serious clean, the bases were covered in green slime! The only way to shower was to wear flip flops! Towels, umbrella's and sun loungers were provided. They had a pool table with no balls and said they were stolen!! The gym (basic equipment!!) was awful, it was in room below the pool level which absolutely stank and was filthy! This hotel would be suberb after a total facelift and for the room rates they charge its a complete rip off! Oh yes, one other positive was the breakfast and which was fine and the staff were very nice too.
I would'nt bother returning to this hotel again but the area is well worth a visit, especially a trip to the wonderful very pretty medieval upper town of San Felice Circeo.

Stayed here for a week in late October and it was a wonderful time. The rooms are spacious and well kept. We had two rooms facing the sea..be sure to book the superior rooms facing the sea. We had half board and the food was excellent and the choices were many. Seemed the best choice of a hotel for San Felice Circeo or for the area. Punta Rossa is too isolated although it is a wonderful drive there .. to take one time not every day. San Felice Circeo has a charming old town up high and a separate and modern town great for shopping and errands. We had marvelous warm weather even in late October. This district on the south side of Mount Circeo is known as the warm district. We also ate several lunches and one Friday night pizza dinner at a wonderful restaurant on the sea...Il Grottino Trattoria and Pizzeria owned by a marvelous woman and with great waiters and a chef who used to be at the famous Rex in downtown Los Angeles and also Chateau Marmont in LA. Terrific food and a very attractive crowd. This is definitely the place to be. Many from Rome have villas on the sea on the road to Punta Rossa and come for the weekends.

  • Liked — Great value. Great location right on the sea.
  • Tips/Secrets — Book superior room with balcony overlooking the sea

I stayed for 10 wonderful days at the Maga Circe at the beginning of June 2005 with my husband and mother-in-law. The staff were very helpful, despite their limited English, and always eager to please. The hotel is owned and run by an old Italian family and it shows, from their attention to detail and the fact that some of their staff have been with them for 30 years.
The rooms were clean, as was the rest of the hotel. The pool was immaculate and there were plenty of sunbeds for everyone. There was waiter service around the pool, if requested, you were left to doze alone, if not!
The food was imaginitive, varied and simply delicious. It was essentially traditional Italian food, not elaborate but nonetheless satisfying. The waiters were friendly and attentive, the Maitre d' was helpful and knowledgable about the wine on the hotel's very acceptable list and all in all, dining was a fun experience. Breakfasts were good and varied too.
Our room was the piece de resistance, as it faced the sea, which was immediately beneath our terrace! Hence all we heard in the morning were gently lapping waves- a real tonic and a guaranteed way to recuperate from our exhausting lives!
All in all, this is a hotel and resort I would recommend to anyone who wants a luxury break away from it all!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Maga Circe is a traditional 4 star family run hotel in Lazio, set in the beautiful Tyrrhenian coast, a hundred kilometers south of Rome, in the splendid Circeo National Park. Our hotel lies in a quiet, residential area, at the foot of the Circeo promontory and not far from the famous sandy beach of San Felice. The area is so beautiful that, according to the tradition, in Thirties it was chosen to build a large villa by one of Benito Mussolini's son, Bruno. The rooms of our hotel offer a breathtaking view: they are all overlooking the promontory or the sea. Well furnished and comfortable, they are equipped with TV, mini-bar and air conditioning; many rooms even have a panoramic balcony. You can also enjoy our large swimming pool with sea water and our little private sandy access to the sea shore. And besides all this, our hotel offers a large terrace, a beautiful veranda for your business meetings, a large hall for your receptions and events, a nice room with a cozy fireplace to warm your winter evenings...
