“Wonderful Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

We were very pleased with this famiily run hotel. The rooms were very comfortable with balconies that overlooked the mountains. Fillipo was the manager and owner. He was very concerned about our comfort and did everything possible to make our stay exceptional.
The food service was also of very high quality and delicious.
Cogne is a small village and one can take evening walks through its charming streets. We would enjoy visiting again.

My wife and family - three young children - and I had a wonderful lunch here, at very reasonable prices, while on holiday in the region. The food was delicious, the service attentive and the views from the restaurant stunning ! My only complaint was that there was one young lady waitress who clearly could not care less, didn't know how to smile and who simply should not have been in the job...

Recently we took over the entirety of the Hotel Sant'Orso for my sister's wedding. I was expecting a village pension with long tables set up on a lawn, bowls of pasta and loaves of bread, "Antonia's Line"-style. Instead what we found was a casual-but-rich alpine lodge, upscale but downright cheap, which put on one of the most exquisite wedding feasts I've experienced in 50 years. Make sure you eat in the restaurant when you're there. The setting at the base of the village is ideal, with breathtaking alpine views and hiking trails outside the hotel door. The hosts, led by Phillipe and Ilenia (disappointingly not a couple :)), bent over backwards in every conceivable way. We were treated like dignitaries. The very best in hospitality is characterized here. The rooms are sizable and fresh and new with all amenities; the bathrooms too, and sparkling clean. Put yourself in the hands of this hotel and your visit to Cogne will remind you of being left with your favorite babysitter when your parents went away for the weekend.

The hotel is very cosy with lots of public spaces and 4 floors of rooms. The rooms are very well maintained and look impeccable, ours had a small balcony with a view on the beautiful Gran Paradiso National Park. The staff is very friendly and extremely helpful, no request is too much or too difficult. The food is very tasty and in abundance; the buffet for lunch and breakfast were varied and beautifully laid out. The hotel is building a spa facility with swimmingpool right now that will only add to the many reasons to stay there. We had a fantastic stay at the hotel and we hope to return there one day. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Room Tip: The rooms with a view across the alpine meadow to the Gran Paradiso park, preferably with a balcony...

We took an overnight trip from Torino with our 4 year old son. I'd like to say we chose the hotel http://www.cognevacanze.com/ORSO/hotel_cogne_4_stelle_cogne_ITA.asp because of its phenomenal location overlooking Gran Paradiso across a gorgeous alpine meadow (very true, and 5 years ago, this would have been the reason!), but in fact it was because the hotel bordered a huge playground full of children. You can use the playground without staying there, but we were tired, and this was an easy way for our 4 year old son to have fun while his parents took turns watching him. The hotel was lovely, staff were extremely helpful, and we definitely hope to return! I can't say enough nice things about this area in June. Hotel staff recommended some lovely hikes (one involving a cable car trip, big fun for our sun) as well as a side trip to a nature park filled with local animals. What a delight!

I picked this hotel to stay in Cogne as it looked a cosy place to stay from the photos on its website and it seemed reasonably priced. It lived up to every expectation! We had a panoramic room with balcony and bathroom...all very spacious and with uninterrupted views of the Gran Paradiso and its mountains. The staff at the hotel were very friendly. We ate at the hotel restaurant on the first night [an ok meal but nothing special!] so we were glad we did not book Half Board. We in any case prefer to try out different restaurants wherever we stay and recommend the following restaurants in Cogne...'Lou Ressignon';' Brasserie du Bon Bec' and 'Les Pertzes'. At this time of year 'Low Season', you can go cross country skiing from the door. However, neither of us ski now but we were happy for 5 days just to take gentle walks around the area. Buses run to Aosta regularly but no where else at this time of year but we were happy just to relax for a few days in the hotel and Cogne. The hotel manager speaks good English and arranged a dog sleigh ride[which I have always wanted to do!] for us which was fun! Luckily, we have Italian family who took us up to Cogne from the airport in Torino. They picked us up on 31 January to go to Aosta to visit the Fiera di Sant'Orso which was very crowded but worth going to[ held annually 30/31 January], an annual event when craftspeople come from the Aosta Valley to exhibit and sell their wares....mostly wooden crafted wares but there are other things there too!
If you want a quiet place to stay in the Italian Alps, Cogne is the place to stay for a few days and the Sant'Orso Hotel is particularly good for 'Relaxing In' and having a 'Romantic Break' away for a few days [we stayed there 5 nights...perfect!]. I often say, as a rule of thumb, why spend money on a good hotel if you are not going to spend time in the hotel! We wanted a relaxing few days and this hotel just catered for our needs so well! We enjoyed our hotel room a lot! I an wondering if I should post this on Trip Adviser Website...Cogne and Hotel Sant'Orso a little known gem! However, the fact that it is not so easily accessible may help to keep it as such!
