We were lucky enough to find available a room with a fireplace during the Christmas season 2011.
It is a family owned hotel with an impressing tradition since 1925.
Everything is taken care of in the slightest detail, with a particular care to the traditional style (from the valdostan clothing of all the personal to the decorations of the elevators) - which is the reason we chose this hotel.
The hotel has three restaurants - two in the same building and one in the village. We tried them all and I find all three very good, my favorite is the Bar au fromage; Gourmet restaurant is kind of pricey but excellent, and in the morning serves as a breakfast hall - having a wonderful panoramic view on the valley of Cogne.
there's a spa with a nice pool, jacuzzi angle, turkish bath, roman sudarium biosauna and finnish sauna and a range of treatments - excellent.
The rooms with fireplace are really spectacular and they have an ensuite jacuzzi bathtub .I heard some of them have a private sauna, our didnt so we used (included in the price) the Spa. We decided to prolong our stay and since the fireplace room was booked the third day they gave us a basic room which is smaller but has the same lovely valdostain style.
The services are exquisite - restaurant, rooms, reception desk , afternoon tea and cookies in the lobby, and everything makes you feel the warmth of the place.
There is the possibility to organize excursions in the area, the Gran Paradiso park is just at 15 min by foot and we had a short trip with the sled trained by a horse. There's also the possibility to organize dog sledding.
I believe this is by far the best place on could stay in southern Val d'Aosta. The Cogne village is small but lovely and still genuine, unlike more touristic places in Val d'Aosta. It takes 2h30 min to reach it from Milano and the street is not as tortuous as going in Engadina for example, the road is in good condition and tortuous for only half an hour.
Fabulous for cross country skiers. It is also at 1 h drive from Courmayeur, Chamonix , La Thuile.
I would love to go back there again.
