“Beautiful on the outside - Regular Marriott on the inside”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

We stayed here for one night on a tour. The outside is beautiful. We stayed in the newer part of the hotel and it was like every other hotel. The beds were fine, the baths worked, etc. We did not get to spend much time in the hotel, so I can not say more. Perhaps the older part of the hotel was more interesting. Beer could be found at the Golf Bar. The pool and sauna was excellent. Laundry costs were very expensive.

Room Tip: Check the rooms in the older section of the Hotel.

We stayed last weekend in the Marriott Dalmahoy Edinburgh prior to the six nations match, the staff were warm and welcoming going out of their to ensure our stay was comfortable. The restaurant food was of a good quality if the menu was a little limited, I would have liked to have seen more fish options on offer.

My husband, daughter and myself stayed just one night on a visit to Edinburgh. Our twin room (two double beds) was spacious and it was great not to have to put up with a camp bed squashed into the room for our daughter to sleep. The leisure club has been recently refurbished and the pool and changing rooms were excellent. We ate in the restaurant next to the leisure club where the food was good value and of a high standard. The menu was limited but offered good variety so there was something for everyone.
The breakfast was excellent, with both buffet and freshly cooked items on offer and a good selection of everything - even towards the end of the breakfast service.

Well as this was a gift from my family and a special occasion I was disappointed with the layout of the hotel and its restaurant. Its a maze inside although our room was good. The restaurant lets it down for its slow service and poor afternoon tea.We waited over a hour for our main meal when it did come it was cold the manager did apoligise several times. But for the afternoon tea it also had to be returned for various faults.
Staff are very good but seem frustrated with all the complaints.

My husband and I stayed at Dalmahoy for a Valentine's treat. The impressive drive up to the hotel made an ideal first impression. We were greeted with a warm welcome by the receptionist who efficiently and quickly checked us in. In fact, all the staff we encountered were friendly and welcoming, without being over bearing. The room was lovely and newly decorated by the look of it. The room was equipped with all the facilities which you would expect of a 4 star hotel. Our room overlooked the golf course and tennis courts. We had dinner in the Pentland restaurant after having cocktails in the lovely cocktail lounge. Our meal was delicious and certainly lots to choose from on the menu. The self service buffet breakfast the next day was lovely - lots of choice! All in all a fantastic relaxing stay in a beautiful hotel

We stayed here for a friends wedding at a room rate of £85 for bed and breakfast. We checked in and were given our room. On getting to the lift it was broken so we had to drag our cases up 3 floors. The room was nice and had everything you would need.

We went to the pool and spa which was nice and we enjoyed relaxing although the jacuzzi did not appear to be working. The changing areas were spacious and good facilities with codes on lockers rather than keys.

The bar in hotel was expensive at £10 for 2 drinks (beer and wine).

The breakfast was very busy and we had to wait to get seated for approx 10-15 min. Breakfast was buffet style and very tasty with a huge variety.

Lovely hotel would return.

We had a single night stay in one of the suites - dinner, bed and breakfast.
The hotel itself is old but serviceable, the building shows its age with creaky floors, cranky lifts and a maze of corridors going in odd directions. The room itself had all the amenities you would expect including TV, Coffee/Tea facilities, safe, iron and board, hairdryer, decent amount of toiletries, etc. The room and bathroom were clean and tidy but showing their age a little.
We had a meal in the Pentland restaurant which was well staffed and had a nice ambience, but we did have to wait an age to be seated, but once sorted staff we attentive and happy to help. The food selection was small and a bit boring to be honest. If you didn’t want fish or game you were left with steak or vegetarian. I opted for the steak and by itself it was a £29 main course. The steak was dry and lifeless and presented with a lumpy potato side and some vine tomatoes for a little bit of colour, otherwise the meal could have been in black and white. It tasted in black and white like someone had turned the taste down to zero.
The deserts were much better, but the selection was a bit dull too. I felt that there should have been a few more modern dishes on the menu as the restaurant was aiming at the older end of the market and was overpriced for what they were offering.
The breakfast the following morning was much better, it had a wide selection of traditional English/Scottish and plenty of fruit, yoghurt, cheeses, cold meats, breads, etc. If only the dinner menu was more up-to-date like the breakfast.
It’s unlikely I’ll choose to stay in this hotel again as it’s too far to eat somewhere else.

Wifi was £6 per hour - comically expensive.

Room Tip: High up facing main road will give the best phone reception.
