“Glad tidings of comfort and joy !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

We treated ourselves to a stay at the wonderful Dalmahoy on 10th November this year, treat being the word ! The hotel was very easy to find, set just outside Edinburgh but far enough away to be in the country. After parking we went to check-in, met by smiling faces all round and the whole process was very smooth with a helpful guide to our room and a check for our evening dining plans thrown in.
The room itself was spotless well furnished and with a Television that was very easy to work, unlike some hotels ! The pillows deserve a special mention too !
We indulged in a dip in the pool, the temperature was perfect and i have to point out that the changing facilities are among the best ive experienced on my wide and far ranging world travels.
We ate out, but returned for a couple of cocktails in the bar, not overly pricey and very good ! Also, superb service with very attentive staff, they managed to be attentive but not in your face !

Breakfast was first class, plenty of choice and again very helpful and friendly staff, coupled with a table at the window on a sunny scottish morning with views of the golf course and beyond...made it the perfect end to a perfect stay.

We will be back.

First time here and it takes a little finding thanks to my Sat Nav but well worth the journey
Excellent service in a wonderful setting and a spotless comfortable room. I will certainly return at the first opportunity . I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. If you get the chance don't hesitate to spend dome time here

We stayed here for a belated 10th Anniversary gift from my parents.

We stayed in the Morton Suite, which has a seperate living room and bedroom, 2 bath rooms and is very quiet as not many others are located near this suite.

The service was 1st class, and the facilities were great.

We didnt use the restaurant except for breakfast, which whilst very busy, was bountiful and high quality. (we Ate elsewhere onthe night we stayed).

Woudl definately go again, and would love to explore the extensive grounds if the weather was better next time!

Room Tip: Go online and see the rooms before booking. It is worth booking a suite for that little extra luxury...

I stayed at the Dalmahoy in October having been invited on a family get together with my gran. The expectations were a lot higher than the actual standards. Shabby ok rooms which stunk of old smoke and a terrible location - we were told it was near the city centre. We payed a fortune for this and it is pants, AVOID!!

I am a Marriott Platinum elite member and travel internationally for work and pleasure. I recently completed my second separate stay at the Dalmahoy Marriott the week of November 12. This hotel has excellent service (the staff is very friendly and accommodating) and is located on beautiful grounds in the countryside outside of Edinburgh (30 minutes) including two golf courses. Yes this hotel is an old mansion/castle but there are only 6 guestrooms in the original building and these rooms have limited availability. I toured these rooms and they do reflect the history of the original property but do require updating. The main hotel is comprised of more traditional accommodations that are a complex maze of corridors and passageways. The rooms require significant updating, especially the bathroom facilities and decor. The breakfast served was excellent however the dinner option at the main restaurant is very underwhelming. My recommendation for food would be to travel 5 minutes by taxi to the Bridge Inn. You could have dinner at the Bridge Inn every night and not be disappointed. In summary, this hotel is located on beautifully grounds outside of Edinburgh and has excellent service (especially the front desk). The property is in need of renovations and the majority of rooms (99%) are not in a 'castle'.

Room Tip: Insist on a 'castle' or 'masion' room. There are only 6 available

I've stayed at the Dalmahoy on four occasions now, and although it's always been for work trips (so I have never paid), I always look forward to staying in this particular hotel. The beds are honestly the most comfortable I've ever slept in (apart from maybe the Yotel at Gatwick Airport). And they're enormous! The rooms and bathrooms are spotless and the staff very helpful. I love the breakfasts, and the dining room is lovely - looking out over the golf course down to the lake.
Usually I don't get the chance to get into Edinburgh City under my own steam, but this year I got a bus in (it stops right at the gates, is every 15 minutes, takes half an hour and only £5.20 return).
Earlier in the year I did a canal trip on the Union Canal and went to Ratho which is just mile away from the Dalmahoy and would recommend the Bridge Inn if you wanted to get out to eat nearby - lovely food and staff.
