“A Museum Gem!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

Visited Pontypool Museum for the first time. What a gem! The collections are wonderful and extremely nostalgic. I was particularly impressed by the hands on activities, there was a nice balance between traditional displays and these interactive exhibits. I like the fact that any interactives in use do not take over, allowing you to focus on the objects themselves. The cafe is full of special treats with a wide range of coffee choices available. The shop has something for everybody. Staff were friendly and happy. Well worth a visit!

“Plenty of interesting stuff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

Nestled close to one of the entrances of the park, Pontypool's museum is a treasure trove of interesting stuff. As museums go it is quite small but well laid out. There are exhibits of the geological features of the area, some lovely examples of locally produced Japan ware, information about the Monmouth and Brecon Canal, and a wonderful exhibition of household equipment from the past. And as you walk along numerous other things will catch your eye. At the far end is the Oriel Barker Gallery which hosts exhibitions of artwork covering a variety of styles. There are some very talented local artists who show their work here on a regular basis. Back at the entrance is a gift shop, and there is a small cafe which also hosts art and craft exhibitions. From time to time it is possible to participate in art and craft events at the museum. Pontypool Museum is definitely worth a visit. p.s. the toilets are well decorated and always clean.

“An Hour Well Spent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

A beautifully organised local museum. Artefacts and print and photos covering mainly the past 250 years of industrial and domestic life of the valley.
It also has some changing exhibitions in addition to its main displays - currently one of the tinned japanned ware pioneered in Pontypool.
Worth the £2 entrance fee.
