“Somewhere Authentic.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2013

If you're looking for the consistency of a Premier Inn keep clear of the Old Manor Hotel.
We came across it in an emergency and in the depths of winter. We've returned several times and will continue to go regularly, sure of it's greatest strength - a warm welcome. (We've noticed a high proportion of returning guests and that speaks for itself.) Although some of the rooms, in converted outbuildings, require a very short walk outside to the dining room, everywhere is warm. The staff are all genuinely interested in the welfare of guests and go to a lot of trouble. We think the food is excellent and the house wines above average. There are no pretensions, there is a wealth of interesting and genuine artefacts and accessories. The gardens are established and spontaneous. There is no hint of blandness, there is an abundance of character and goodwill. A relaxed and relaxing place to stay - and all the beds we've slept in are soooooo comfortable!

We stayed for 2 nights in the trowle suite on a groupon deal... which turned out to be excellent value for money. The hotel is not your average mod con hotel but has a quirky touch and offers something a bit different! The breakfast was lovely although we were sadly a little disappointed with the evening meal. The staff couldn't do enough for you and were very knowledgeable on the local area and went out of their way to give advice and directions! We visited Bath and personally thought Bradford on Avon a little gem! A comfortable and relaxing stay. . Thank you

If you want swish modernity this hotel isn't for you, but if you like cosy comforts in a friendly traditional quaint english environment with excellent locally sourced fresh food, then you will love it. It's ideally situated for discovering Wiltshire and Bath area with so much to do near at hand. The neighbouring Bradford on Avon is a beautiful and a walk or jog away. We had great food and excellent fast service . To top it all the masseuse Karen was excellent and gave our weekend a very relaxing start. We will go again.

Room Tip: We had room 9 outside the main house opposite the dining area-very convenient and quiet overlooking...

This establishment delivers a wonderful deal for those Anglophiles who hanker back to some rose tinted version of the non-psychedelic 60ies. It also seems to cater for those who value 'swivilisation' ... that notion that we can turn the clock back to some golden age that existed before the relativisation of values and the 'corruption' of the UK by foreign influences. Without the restaurant, which many reviewers praise, this place would just scrape a four blob rating.

The praise for the food is somewhat misplaced, unless one hankers for the era of slightly overcooked steaks being called rare, because its rude to have red bits in the meat. The Anglicisation of dishes continues into some mid-Atlantic fantasy with a very US bland take of a Mexican themed dish which sets the style for domesticating those foreign influences ... however this gammon and eggs community of Anglophilia and swivilasation could regard the menu and cooking style as approaching a theme park perfection.

The staff are excellent.and their version of the 'full english breakfast' has a satisfying elegance of a near perfect approach to this dish, if that is what one wants. If you eat there be prepared for a slightly updated version of a good quality Egon Ronay recommendation from the Heath era. As this or an example of the better half of "swivilisation" you will delight in the experience. Otherwise be prepared for a disappointment. To raise standards the chef needs to supervise the quality of the goods supplied by the local tradespeople more closely which varies from the very good to the just escaped from second class by a whisker.

The hotel's main building does have an interesting décor, with a good collection of sewing machines and other bric-à-brac tastefully arranged. The rooms in the main building are well furnished and represent reasonably value.

I would not recommend eating there unless you have either anglophilia or that 'swivilised' nostalgia for a bygone era of a Britain insulated by parochial cultural values. In that case you might fell you were experiencing a taste of paradise in a suburb of heaven reserved for those who had been middling good and mildly prosperous.

A sommelier would suggest hat less said about the wine list the better.

It was, initially, such a great pleasure to welcome uncle Martin. It's such a shame that we will not be able extend such a warm one should he by happenstance or time machine find himself in the environs of Bradford on Avon, at my Anglophilic, Swivilistic hostelry.
I spent the 60's and 70's studiously avoiding mind altering potions but it seems some people still bear the scars and are unable to string a decent sentence together.
It seems as if you almost enjoyed your sojurn at Old Manor. That in itself is reason to keep living.
The staff are fantastic and the place itself is pretty groovy. As your rightly surmised you are in the minority.
I would suggest that ingesting Roget's Thesaurus after reading too many AA Gill and Giles Coren restaurant reviews has maybe given rise to some kind of linguistic dissentry, along with a terminal dose of circumlocution.
On a serious note: if your steak is unsatisfactory , please let us know. As the plate came back empty and we enquired if it was to your satisfaction and the answer was yes , there was little we could do at the time.
Tim Burnham, Swivlistic, Anglophilic, non psychedelic owner of the rather excellent Old Manor Hotel

As it states, this is not a modern decorated hotel. This is an Old English style hotel. The accommodation is made up of old style decoration and furniture. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. We had an evening meal here which was very nice.I had a lovely generous, perfectly cooked steak and my partner had a lovely gammon, egg and chips. Good generous helpings. I also had a really nice chocolate orange cheesecake, nice and light. Free WiFi coverage in some areas. We paid an excellent price on a last minute booking, via laterooms.com

Room Tip: The hotel sits back from the road and so no noisy rooms from what we could tell. All rooms appear to...

had a 2 night stay through living social in a luxury room. The room and bathroom were excellent and I would go back any day. It is the first time on holiday that the two of us could watch television together in comfy chairs. Normally one person is lying on the bed. The bed was nice and firm and very large. Good nights sleep. The first night we stayed in for dinner and an excellent meal was had by 4 of us. The 2nd night decided to go to a local pub that had been recommended, the food was good but not as good as the hotel. Had a day out in Bath not far away. Lovely part of the country and hope to return one day. Staff very helpfull and young. Only down turn credit cards only no cash, no problem but we prefer cash for drinks etc.

Room Tip: There are several catagories in rooms advise web site prior to booking

This hotel is amazing. My husband and i stayed for two nights in thte Trowle suite, it was very comfortable and quiet.
Chris the manager was very knowledgeable about the local area and directed us on a walk along the canal this was fasinating.
Lots of running hot water and warm bathropom.
The weather was also amazing. We hope to visit again.

Room Tip: No 2 Trowle. it has a four poster bed in an elevated position.
