“Lovely 2 night stay here, difficult to fault!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

Me and my partner had a very nice break in Bath and stayed at the Old Manor for 2 nights.

Reading reviews before and after our stay, I'm confused as to how people can complain about an original listed building, looking 'tired' or 'needing work', surely if that isn't your thing, don't book to stay at a hotel called The OLD Manor! And as for complaining about rainfall and resulting puddles?! It beggars belief what some people will try and pin on the staff and owners!

The rooms are very clean and comfortable with plenty of character, beds are big and dangerously comfortable, so set those alarms if you're heading into Bath which is a handy 20 min scenic drive away.

Food was very nice, served quickly by the friendly staff. Very much enjoyed the homemade jams and marmalade which were plentiful at breakfast, nice touch.

Upon checkout we were wished all the best and all in all had a very, very nice break.

Keep up the good work guys!

Steve & Katie.

Just a comment on the recent review comparing dinner at the Old Manor Hotel with the Seven Stars in Winsley. For locals, the Seven Stars is an excellent pub/restaurant, but the prices mean we just dine there on special occasions, whereas the Old Manor provides excellent food at a more affordable price. The Seven Stars has just changed hands, so hopefully the new owners will provide a dual menu of restaurant meals and reasonably priced bar meals.

My partner brought me here for my birthday and we stayed a couple of nights in the 'luxury room' which was one of 4 little suites separate from the main building. I think it was converted stables. It's a fantastic place, just outside Trowbridge, nice and quiet and a thoroughly pleasant place to stay. Lets break it down a bit:

Surroundings / building: The surroundings are lovely. As I said, its just outside Trowbridge and while on the main road, its set back more than sufficiently and you can't hear a thing from the road. I saw someones comment about the driveway - OK, it has potholes, but really - who cares! Drive slowly and you don't have a problem!! The main building is lovely. It seems to be well kept, clean and tidy - in fact, homely. It had things out and on display that made it more like a personal place rather than a generic hotel.

Our room: Superb! It was generously sized, had a little separation for the living room, where you had a small table, couple of chairs and the TV. This was nice because it meant you didn't feel as though you were in the same room - nothing worse than being in a hotel and you have to watch TV on the end of the bed! The bathroom was modern and nice. Again, couldn't fault the cleanliness. There was a shower in addition to a bath, as well - that makes a nice change. The bed was also a sensible size - super king. There were also tea / coffee making facilities in the room with a couple of packets of biscuits. Nice touch, it meant we didn't starve in the evening! The room also had period furniture. I can understand that its not to everyones taste, but for me at least, I liked it and thought it made the room.

Food: We had breakfast included and I can only assume it's entirely local produce. The reason for this assumption is because it was so nice! The waitress had no problem customising what I wanted, it was brought quickly and with a friendly face - what more can you want? Oh yes, and the breakfast room was big, with a real fireplace at the end (And it was massive!). The tables were nicely spaced apart, too. Best of all, the food was REALLY hot! Also, the coffee came in a cafetiere - only a small point, but so much nice that being handed a cup of instant coffee.

Summary: Wonderful place, if we're in the area again, I'll certainly be looking at staying here again. I couldn't fault it, and to the owners - keep it up! To potential visitors - come here! It's lovely and I don't think you'd be disappointed at all.

Found the hotel easy enough and is loacted just on the edge of Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon. The room was small but clean and dominated by a high bed which you had to climb onto. We both found the bed and pillows too hard for our liking and my partner did not sleep particulary well. The shower was tempermental in the morning. We did consider eating in the restaurant, however the receptionist could not provide us with a evening menu at 4pm! She gaves us the previous evenings one and there was no vegetarian option so we chose to dine elsewhere. The breakfast in the morning was good quality and effieciently served.

Dear Mr Threadbare,
We do err on the slightly hard side for beds. Most people seem very happy and often comment on how comfy the beds are. Chef writes the menu around 5pm each day. He had originally forgotten to put the vegetarian option on the menu and it was later altered. You were shown version 1 by mistake.I have spoken to him about it. I have checked out the shower. Its now fine. Sorry about that.

We had a very pleasant 2 night stay at the Old Manor. As we know the Bath area very well we had already planned our days and meals and therefore primarily used the hotel as a base to lay our heads. As many of the other reviewers have noted our room (6) was a little tired but comfortable. The hotel was pretty full and the staff were great throughout, from reception to departure. Breakfast, quality and quantity, was excellent on both mornings and the atmosphere in the lounge area in the evening was also good although at just under £5 for a very small glass of port we only availed ourselves of one drink each during our stay!

We arrived a little early but our rooms were ready. We wanted to go for a walk and the manager was very helpful and suggested a couple of routes along the canal and also pointed out a great place to stop for hot chocolate! Our room was very comfortable and cosy. The bathroom could do with a little updating but that is a personal view, it was otherwise good and I understand that it is due for an update in a few months. We booked to eat in the restaurant and the food was excellent. We all (5 of us) met in the bar a little early but the staff were happy to open for us. It was a family get together and the hotel was ideally located. We will certainly stay here again. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely too and all ingredients locally sourced.

We booked this hotel through a living social voucher but found the staff very helpful, friendly and efficient from start to beginning. The room (No. 11) was lovely overlooking farmland and a lovely comfortable 4 post bed. Room had an old fashioned and quaint feel, lovely and clean and very homely. Everything you needed! The breakfasts were a real treat and we ate in the hotel restaurant and the food was very good, chef goes out of his way to accommodate any requests. A special thank you to Ryan and Stacey who dealt with our booking and enquiries. Would recommend for a weekend treat or great if visiting surrounding areas, like Bath and Bradford on Avon. Would definitely recommend and return. Thank you Old Manor Hotel. Diana & Colin
