2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2008

The Chymorvah hotel is located a little bit outside of Marazion centre, which makes its location very quiet, overlooking the sea.
This is an old house with an old decoration.
Our room, even though it was quite tiny for 2, was pretty, a kitsch fitting, we say, not my style but it was okay.
As there were many plants on the outside wall, the room let spiders in, small and .. a very big one, which more or less ruined the following morning.
The breakfast was the worst i have ever had during my trip in West England. The cheese & omelette was so salty that i could not eat it, the staff were nice enough to make another for me. We had to choose between orange juice and porridge and were begging for additional toasts.
Welcome was fairly okay.
But my general recommendation would be to avoid this place.

We stayed at The Chymorvah Hotel for one night.

The hotel in general is very tired, chintzy and has lots of religous texts and notices in the public areas. I felt it was a bit over the top especially when I noticed the mosaic on the reception desk which had the word Christ repeated across the top.

Our room was very cramped which proved to be stressful when getting dressed to go to a party.

The feather pillows were hard and lumpy.
The curtains and bedspread were grubby.

The en-suite was very small and cramped and had not been cleaned from the previous occupant.

The welcome pack was tucked away in a drawer but there was a bible opened and ready to read!! There was also other religous pamphlets in the room.

The breakfast menu was on the reception desk and had a variety of options however the menu was not in evidence in the dining room. we had a full english breakfast put in front of us followed by white toast. we were not offered any choices!! There was no cereal available on the dresser as advertised on their web site.

Staff were very uncommunicative and we got the feeling that if we offered an opinion it would not have been well recieved.

The views are great but you can get similar views in Mounts Bay in much nicer places. The gardens looked pretty and fairly well cared for.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone it is very poor value.

we stay in lots of different hotels in the Penzance area apart from The Beachfield on the Penzance Prom this is the worst we have stayed in.

We stayed for one night here in October 2005. Found it in a tourist information brochure and were walk-in customers as we weren't sure where we'd end up that night.

It was slow season, so we had a choice of rooms. Many had great views of St. Michael's Mount, but we chose one that didn't. The extra money wasn't worth it. Besides, our cheaper, non-view room had a nicer configuration than the others and a four-poster bed. There was a great view of the mount from their parking lot and from the lovely garden between the hotel and the sea. It's within walking distance of the centre of the village and the route to the mount. Adequate breakfast in the morning. Smallish room, but we weren't in it for long. Nice guest lounge with large TV which we used in the evening.

Had cream tea in town. Ate dinner at local pub - The Fire Engine Inn - good.

If you go, St. Michael's Mount is a must. A bit of a walk straight up (at least it seems that way), but well worth it. It's been a passion of mine to see it for years and I wasn't disappointed. A really neat place, and still lived in by members of the family who took it over in the 1600s.

It was like stepping back in time. A beautiful old hotel with comfy beds and lots of chintz. It had a long garden full of dogs and ducks that led down to a beach. The service was superb. Our room had wonderful views of St Michaels Mount. Would def. go back.
