“A little GEM”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

What a beautiful well kept park. We needed accommodation in the penzance area for a couple of nights and thought it better to have self catering chalet rather than a hotel room. We searched the internet and found Wheal Rodney. The park is well laid out and very clean & tidy. The staff were excellent with nothing being too much trouble. Our chalet was very clean with towels supplied and they even offered a FREE daily maid service if required. The pool was really warm and the area again very clean. We will be back.

We've just returned from a lovely weekend at the camp site, what a little gem of a find. Having read the reviews from other other holiday makers (all good) we decided to make a booking for the weekend in two of the holiday cottages/chalets. My wife has an OCD for cleanliness, which isn't a bad thing I suppose, and she was very impressed by the overall standard of the cottages, they were superb. I won't lie, they were functional and well equipped rather than luxurious, but were just brilliant for a long weekend from home.
We would certainly recommend the site to anyone else, and wouldn't hesitate in going back again. The staff deserve a mention too, nothing was too much trouble.. thank you..

I have always wanted to visit St Michaels Mount so whilst in Devon for my Daughters wedding took the opportunity to go over to Cornwall. Researched places and found Wheal Rodney, what a find lovely lovely place,. the girl in the reception was excellent and couldn't do enough for us. Don't really understand why when someones feel they have something to complain about they don't do it personally rather than put in on here. I am sure the owners would have sorted out everything asap.

We loved the place very friendly and clean couldn't fault it and would recommend to anyone who fancies visiting Cornwall. The pubs recommended were good with good food and very friendly.

Stayed here with my husband just for one night in June during a whistle-stop visit to our home land. We had booked a one bedroom chalet but were allocated a two bedroom one due to other visitors' requirements - no problem for us, gave us a little bit extra room. There would have been ample room for a family with two young children.

The staff in reception were chatty and welcoming, and happy to answer our questions about Marazion.

Unfortunately our chalet smelled as though it needed a good airing; possibly down to the rather aged furniture which I guess had been in use before the non-smoking policy. But everything was clean and tidy (although there seemed to be a leak around the wash basin in the shower room) and we had everything that we needed for our stay. Some of the information in the folder in the chalet was a little misleading - I would stay clear of the highly recommended bakery; they had the worst pasties we have ever experienced rather than the best as suggested!

Thank you for your review. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay, and appreciated your upgrade to a larger lodge. We are also pleased you found our reception staff helpful and that cleanliness was good in your lodge. We are extremely sorry that you felt the lodge needed airing - we have looked back at the notes taken during the time of your stay here, and can find no mention of this - we always ask guests to let us know immediately, and at the time of their stay if there are any problems - no matter how small so that we can rectify them immediately. I can assure you that there has ALWAYS been a policy of no smoking in our lodges, so it is unlikely that this would have been the issue. There had been a large amount of unseasonable heavy rain immediately prior to your stay, so it could just be that guests had been airing damp clothes prior to your stay or something similar which may explain it. AS regards any furniture in the lodges, during the last winter season we renewed beds and fridges, and some tables and chairs in lodges. WE would not necessarily renew furniture due to age, but renew as and when needed, and whether it was clean and tidy. Regarding the leak you found around the wash basin - these things do happen occasionally in any property , and we try to fix them immediately - but need to be informed at the time. we have dedicated maintenance people on site all day everyday. Again, we can find no mention of this on your departure, We always find it regretful when there are any issues following a stay with us that we have been powerless to do anything about during the guests stay. We are a little perplexed about the comment that you found the information in the folder in the lodge a little misleading - we have tried to give much information that we feel may be useful to our guests in these folders and previously have been praised for the detail involved in our info which our guests have appreciated - Feedback from guests told us that they would appreciate our comments and recommendations. Your comment about the pasty sold in a shop we recommended and your claim that we may have given misleading information in our booklet , is of course, personal taste.
I won't go into the merits of that particularly bakery here - except to say that it is famous in Cornwall, and is where the locals go. As with the above, if the pasty was not up to the standard expected, then this should have been taken up at that time with the shop involved. I notice that all current trip advisor reviews on here have given us top marks for value for money, but on yours you have rated us 3 out of 5. which has caused us disappointment and we would like to learn more about your reasons for this. If you could email us personally we can then look at any issues relating to this and reply privately.
WE are indeed geared to the budget holiday market and feel that our lodges represent outstanding value for money . Your lodge cost £49 inc. VAT , in total including 2 persons for the night, and this included bed linen, electricity, and use of our our lovely warm indoor pool. We feel that this represents outstanding value, and therefore would be extremely interested to receive your feedback on this value deal, and where you feel we could improve. . Thank you again for your comments, WE strive to make each guests stay at Wheal Rodney value for money, clean and comfortable and will continue with improvements to lodges throughout the winter. Yours sincerely, Sian.

Went camping with a 6 person tent. Plenty of room on our non electric pitch. The grounds are well maintained and we had a washing line provided behind our tent, looking out onto open fields! The toilets and showers were excellent. Clean and working! Free freezer for ice packs. The swimming pool was brilliant. A shallow end and a deep end 5ft allowed for all to enjoy. Again.. clean and tidy. The camp shop was cheap and stocked everything you might need.
A short walk took you into Marazion, with many great pubs etc. The Firestation pub was full of friendly locals and the food was homemade and had a five star rating!
The campsite was really well run, and we were made to feel welcome and safe.

Had 6 lovely nights in one of Wheal Rodney's self-catering chalets.

Arriving - lovely friendly and relaxed welcome, and very accommodating as we arrived quite early and we were lucky enough to get in to our chalet early.

Chalet - large open-plan kitchen and living area, 2 bedrooms (1 double, 1 twin) and a shower room. The kitchen comes very well equipped with everything you need, including a lovely welcome pack of tea/coffee etc. No need to take washing up liquid, soap, salt etc, all there.
Living room had 2 lovely big leather sofas which were very comfortable and a TV/DVD player.
Bedrooms are basic, but clean and comfortable. Could do with a bit of an upgrade soon, but did the job.
There is a maid service every day. Just a change of towels and make the beds, but that's more than we expected and very welcome.

Swimming Pool - Very pleased this site had a swimming pool, which was a good size and lovely and warm.

Site in general - Is small with a mix of chalets and tents, a shop, washing facilities etc. Lots of information available to you about the local area.
Perhaps something which would have added to our experience would have been a small play area for the kids? Not a major issue, just would have been nice!

Service - Amazing team of friendly and helpful staff run this place. Didn't have many occasions to have to deal with them, but when we did they were all extremely good.

Location - Situated in a quiet area just outside Marazion. You can walk into town in about 20 minutes. Really handy position for getting around West Cornwall.

All in all we had a great time, no complaints at all and will definitely recommend and return. Thanks a lot.

This year was our 6th staying at Wheal Rodney and our 3rd stay of 2012.

Husband, myself and our Manchester Terrier, Jess, stay in a one bed chalet which has everything you could possibly need from microwave to flat screen Freeview TV to doggy box ( a touch of genius which includes some doggy biscuits, poop bags and water/food bowls meaning we don't have to pack a small case for the pooch!)

Staff are all extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and there's a daily maid service if you need it. The site itself has a well stocked shop and the grounds are tended daily meaning it always looks it's best and is very tidy.

Well located for everything in the area - Marazion a ten minute walk away, St Ives and Penzance only 10-15 minutes away too.

All in all really good value for money so we'll see you after Xmas for our 4th visit of 2012!
