“Good and bad with fantastic views.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2012

As we walked around Marazion we realised that there weren't that many hotels so this hotel had a captive audience. There was plenty that was good about this hotel including the food, the room that overlooked St Michaels Mount, onsite parking and location. There were however, silly annoying things that spoiled it getting more stars.

First, the car park was full when we arrived and we discovered later that anyone seems to park there regardless of a sign that says non hotel residents will be clamped. It just isn't enforced. A staff member moved their car so we could park.

Second, there was a blood stain on my pillow and a dirty mark on my partner's pillow. The floor had not been hoovered properly either.

Third, the shower curtain was far too long for the rail it was hanging from so it hung in the shower tray in water for germs to happily accumulate.

Fourth, we lost count of the number of times we asked for something in the restaurant and it didn't arrive. The staff were lovely but had no idea how to remember things.

I found the mattress to be far too soft for my liking so bear that in mind if you like harder mattresses as I do. I still slept well despite the seagulls attempt to wake me.

On a positive note, the view from room 9 is a delight and it is beautifully decorated with a queen size bed, window seat and chair, a double wardrobe, small LCD TV, tea & coffee making facilities and sash windows. The bathroom has a shower and a corner toilet making good use of space and again, is nicely decorated. Towels were plentiful and of a good quality and size. This room is on the top floor so you have to go up 3 floors via stairs to get to it. Breakfast is included in the price and was very good as was the evening meal in the restaurant which was always full so booking is a must. Note that breakfast is 8:30 - 9:30 every day. I would have expected more flexibility at the weekends than this.

Overall, it was a pleasant 3 night stay but certainly expensive and with silly things that could easily be sorted out.

Room Tip: Room 9 - overlooks St. Michaels Mount and is beautifully decorated.

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights in June of this year. The room was clean and comfortable, service and food excellent. We used the bar a number of night and were impressed buy how friendly the local were. In fact the only thing that was not so good was the weather.
I am not certain what Emma W expected perhaps she expects 5 star treatment from a 3 star hotel, but we were impressed, so much so we have just booked a 7 night stay in September, and am trying to talk the wife into staying over the Christmas break, I really cannot fault this hotel its like the tv advert said it does all that it says on the tin.

.

Room Tip: We thought it was worth the extra for a seaview

Where do I start with this hotel. We had a terrible stay. It is extremely over priced for what it is and you are probably better off staying somewhere else or in a tent!

The wifi is very poor and painfully slow, The tv often loses signal or doesn't get signal to work. There was dirty hair ridden soap left in the shower, the cleaner left her dirty cloth on the side in our room, one of our towels was already stained and dirty, we asked for a twin room but the single beds were pushed together so each day I pushed them apart for the cleaner to push them back together, if I would have wanted a double room I would have booked one!!

Service is extremely slow and poor, had dinner in the restaurant n the first night. Had to wait 40 minutes for our mains - the restaurant was under half full with about ten people in it. We then had to wait ten mins to get our drinks that we had ordered - they were sat on the side at the bar but the staff decided it was better if they just stood there and talked instead, it took me walking up and being one foot away from them for one of the waitresses to pick them up and bring them to the table. It took over 15 minutes for our plates to be taken. Staff also forgot drinks orders for the table next to us

The breakfast was average there are no menus/boards that say what is available from the kitchen and the staff do not seem to want to go through a list to let you know  The bacon is also very streaky and not nice at all! The only good thing is the fresh fruit that is available. There were no jams on the table and the service was again very slow. Staff seemed to find it perfectly acceptable to put the tea pots on the toast plates and pile food around you instead of clearing things away.

We asked for some extra uht milk as we had run out and were told to go to our rooms and it would be brought up to save us waiting around. It took over 2 hours for someone to bring up any milk. The rooms in the restaurant and bedroom could do with a paint, there are grubby marks and chips over the walls. When you leave the hotel you are asked to place your keys behind the counter so that staff know who is in the building. Great idea however the reception is unmanned and the keys are on show to everyone. Anybody could swipe your key and go into your room if they really wanted especially as they know you are out!

My wife & I stayed for 6 nights in July. Room 10 very comfortable plenty of tea & coffee with a beautiful view of St. Michaels Mount. All staff very friendly & helpful. Great breakfast, Booked dinner for our first night, the selection & food was excellent so had dinner there for the rest of the week ( puddings to die for). Small bar with friendly locals (Cheap Beer). Very peaceful at night, plenty of parking at rear of hotel. Just a few minutes from the A30. All in all a great little hotel,we would not hesitate to return..

We were walking the South West Coast Path in July 2011 and stayed here for 1 night. Ideal stopping point close to path with good veggie dinner in their own restaurant.

We booked 3 nights at the Marazion Hotel in a sea view room to celebrate my birthday. The hotel is very central in Marazion and has a good large car park at the rear, On arrival we were quickly checked in and taken to room 9 on the top floor. The room was large, airy and had a great view over the bay and to St Michael's Mount - perfect. The only issue was that the bathroom floor hadn't been properly cleaned which we reported to the guy on the bar and this was duly sorted out for us; after we came back from our walk it had been done. The bathroom was a reasonable size but it was just a shower and no bath. The shower wasn't overly powerful. The room was always warm and there was a hairdryer, good tea and coffee making facilities and a TV in the room. The room was serviced everyday and clean towels were put out for us. We had one bathrobe between the two of us which was a little odd!

Breakfast was between 8.30am and 9.30am which was ok as we had a lot to do in our three days but we think it may have been nicer to have this later at the weekends. Breakfast was a quiet affair as the hotel was quiet but there were cereals to choose from and some fruit and then we were offered hot drinks, toast and a cooked breakfast. We never waited long for the cooked breakfast to come and it was always nicely cooked - the poached eggs were great!

We had a drink in the bar on the first evening but found it to be a bit of a locals bar and they all seemed to be having their own conversation and picking the music etc. By the third evening we went for a drink at the Kings Arms next door which was more relaxing.

The hotel has its own coffee lounge - we didn't try it but it looked nice and think it would have been worth a try as where we went for a cream tea wasn't overly welcoming!

All the staff we encountered were pleasant and friendly. I think like a lot of places in Cornwall they are trying to be everything to everybody but I guess that is what it takes to keep the business going.

If you can get a sea view room then its worth booking in here for its convenience for Marazion, St Michaels Mount and its large car park.

Room Tip: Room 9 had an excellent view to St Michaels Mount.
