“Papa Gallo = 100% Roosterfish / 100% Baja”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2011

From the moment we got to Papa Gallo, I knew this place was absolutely 100% about Roosterfish. Bill's beach is completely the way to get away from people and traffic, not to mention that if offered some of the best Rooster action that we saw during our stay and we did not see another soul there. This being my first trip to Baja to chase Roosters, I have been completely taken over by the power of these fish and this fishery. As a full time fly fishing guide who spends over 300+ days a year on the water, this is the most challenging and pure form of fishing that I have ever done. From chases, follows, denials, encouraging refusals, and eats Roosterfish are the most amazing and draining of all saltwater fish that I casted to. If you are looking for the real deal, look no further. This "no guide / no boat" style of fly fishing will capture and take hold of the true angler deep inside. This is no joke! Get ready to run and have all of your wit and angling ability tested. BTW, strip faster... I cannot wait until next year to return and you bet I will be staying at Papa Gallo.

Room Tip: Papa Gallo or The Eagles Nest

Myself and 3 friends stayed for 5 nights at the eagles nest. We are already discussing a return trip and highly recommend it to any folks traveling on a budget. The weather was perfect: 80's during the day, 60's at night, literally no clouds and best of all, no bugs. Eagles nest is situated on top of the garage with a 360 degree view of the east coast of Baja; 2 queen beds and a small kitchen make Eagles nest perfect for 2 couples. Don't expect the frills of other Cabo resorts, but the excellent location and low cost more than make up for what may be lacking in refinement.

We stayed for a week in the Eagle's Nest enjoying amazing views, especially sunrise. Every day we walked the beach and never saw another person. Despite some wind, the weather was fantastic. Even on the windy days we got in some great snorkeling at Los Frailles where I saw a turtle, a moray eel and tons of fish. There are several beautiful options for snorkeling on calm days. Alicia's in Cabo Pulmo is delicious for dinner. Grocery shopping is 13 miles north (on a good road.) The casitas have kitchens so you can cook, keep cold beer, etc. On a good night the owner, Bill makes fresh margaritas. We talked to another guest who took a fly casting lesson with Bill - she loved it.
