Set in a beautiful village, the pub serves a surprisingly wide selection of dishes, all of which seem freshly prepared. Generally wholesome food and nicely presented, for the majority who walk to the pub - game, casseroles, lamb shanks; and for the wimps like us who came and left by car, plenty of lighter alternatives from "salad boards" to tasty fish dishes. Not everything perfect - a dry and over-cooked beef pasty and chips probably not what the chef intended and probably shouldn't have been served, and a starter of battered haggis alongside battered black pudding was probably missing the similarly battered mars bar and was something we should have left for the walkers, But the majority in our large group thoroughly enjoyed what they ordered. Take a look at the pub's website for the complete menu but be warned there's also an additional extensive list of daily specials. Expect the place to be busy. Service is good and the staff lovely
In summary, good for a walking stopover, or for a day out. As an inn, also an ideal spot from which to explore the area by foot - the Linton Falls certainly not to be missed.
