“Dales break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2014

Stayed here for one night ( Saturday) and it was very good indeed. After a good walk up to Burnsall and back it was lovely to come back and have a wash and brush up and enjoy the good beer in the bar before dinner. Food was excellent and so was breakfast the following morning. Ok so its not bargain basement but it is in a good location and quality doesnt come cheap.

It was a surprise dinner, which my partner arranged secretly. I must say that food was outstanding and this was the best meal ever!!! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anybody. Could not fault it !!

Six of us dined here last night to celebrate my 50th birthday and enjoyed the fabulous value £39.50 for TWO PEOPLE deal offered on Sunday and Monday evenings. We enjoyed four courses which were absolutely perfect. The beef and lamb dish I chose for the main course was superb, and as always the Ruddens were attentive to my #glutenfree requirements by tweaking the menu options imaginatively (e.g. light crushed meringue on top of my tangy lemon sweet in place of the biscuit/wafer it would have had).

Never been disappointed here and last night was exceptionally good; thank you John and Sue for a perfect finale to a wonderful birthday.

Somewhat disappointed with our stay here based on reviews from this site and the hotel's own website. Was it terrible, no. Were the staff polite, yes. Was the food pleasant, yes. But for £200 a night you don't expect some of the issues we had. This hotel and restaurant paints a better picture than the place we've just stayed at. But then maybe we just stayed on an off-night!
In hindsight we wouldn't have chosen here.

Me & my girlfriend stayed here originally on a B&B basis but decided to have dinner as they were offering a Burns night supper. The evening was fantastic. Arrival drink and greeted by very welcoming staff. The 4 course meal was outstanding. An absolute credit to the chef and his team. From being served the homemade bread, through every course with optional glasses of wine to accompany, right upto having the coffee & handmade chocolates. A traditional bagpiper as entertainment with the most wonderful addressing of a haggis i ve ever come across. Appreciating good food, i could not fault it. As well as good food, was excellent service, particularly from graeme. Who, in my opinion, had a very good attention to detail, being courteous, remaining professional throughout. A very bright future ahead of you. We stayed in the Red Room, which was spacious, had a huge bathtub in the room, ample bathroom with excellent walkin rainfall shower. The bed was better than mine at home. Very comfy with all ammenities you need. The bar area was traditional of an inn, fire, wooden beams, local ales etc. Breakfast was very good also, a full english with the chefs homemade sausages, excellent. Homemade jam & marmalade with proper toast. Delicious. Very worthy of its awards. Thankyou very much. we will be back to stay again. Mike & Natalie.

My partner and I stopped here for our anniversary. We stayed in room six . We couldn't find any faults with the hotel, the food was excellent, staff very friendly and the room with the little extra touches like homemade biscuits and chocolates with happy anniversary written on the plate made our stay complete. I would recommend to stay here. We will be staying here again.
