“Charming old cottages and churchs from the sub-Carpathian region collected in one place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2011

The Skanesen is a collection of various cottages, cerkwie (Orthodox/Byzantine-Catholic Churches) from the Carpathian area.

After the communists pushed out the Boyks and Łemks from the Carpathian region, some Polish historians managed to salvage buildings from the area. These are collected ehre in one of the biggest and imho the best Skansen in Poland.

These are well worth visiting.

Note -- you should take a guided trip as you can enter most buildings only in the presence of a guide. The guide cost 40 zł (separate from the entry ticket price), but if you wait and pool with a group of other people, you can reduce the cost per person (so if you get 10 folks, the cost per person is 4 zł).

The best guides speak only Polish, but you can arrange for an English or French speaking guide (perhaps in other languages as well) -- call ahead to book.

Do stop to eat at the little restaurant (gospoda) just inside the skansen -- the food is good. If not, there is a nice restaurant across the bridge that has a very good fish selection.

The price for the tickets per person is 11 zl for adults. If you have already visited the Icon museum then show that ticket and you can get the ticket for 9 zł. If you plan on visiting the icon museum AFTER, then keep the ticket to show and get a reduced price for the museum entry.

The bathrooms are in a good condition.

NOTE: you will have to do a lot of walking and while the paths are wheel-chair accessible, it isn't that easy and a lot of the exhibitions are uphill.
