“Fabulous stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2012

My boyfriend and I stayed at Kiara earlier this month and thoroughly enjoyed it! The units are modestly decorated but very comfortable. In terms of location it's ideally situated between Clarens and Golden Gate National Park so whether we were in the mood for a hike or an indulgent lunch both options were easily accessible.
There are lovely walking trails, a spa and a cosy pub / restaurant on site. All of which we made use of and all of which we enjoyed.
The staff (from the Front Desk to the man who cleans the braai's in the morning...), however, were the best part of the lodge! Unobtrusive, courteous and so very friendly and helpful - I can't fault them at all. Wonderful staff!!!!!

The 3 bedroom unit was booked by my mum, and it proved to be spacious and modestly decorated. Overall, it was sufficiently good for a weekend getaway. It is nestled along the mountainside and it does get chilly at night during Winter so the fireplace comes in handy. Remember you can get wood at the lodge kiosk.

The quaint town of Clarens is 15km to the west of the lodge, and at least half a day can be spent roaming in and around the restaurants, art galleries and pottery shops.

The Basotho cultural village was also visited during this trip, and this would be your thing if you are interested in a little bit of history. The tour costs R50 for some information whilst walking around the village.

Wow, wow is all I can say! I had organized a special weekend for my partners birthday and I had a huge favour to ask of the resort. I spoke to Enrika and asked her to please assist me in decorating the unit with flowers, balloons and a birthday banner. She and her staff went out of their way to make sure it was done. On arrival, we checked in and amazingly everything I'd requested was arranged, with compliments of a bottle of champagne! My partner was so surprised and we were in for a great start to the weekend! Kiara Lodge is a wonderful resort, we stayed in a 3 bedroom unit, was very well designed and it was very spacious! The kids playground was fantastic, our 3 year old had an absolute ball! I have to also mention the restaurant- Trout and Mallard, amazing service! The couple we were with has a 4 week old baby and on Saturday evening, it was freezing, so we phoned the restaurant and requested a take away to our unit. They delivered promptly, the food was hot and wow, the food was amazing, not one of our 5 meals were disappointing, it was first class! Thank you Mac and staff! Lastly, I just want to add that Kiara Lodge, you have made a very big impression on the family in 16D! You will definitely see us again in the near future! With massive THANKS and APPRECIATION, Sara Thompson

We stayed in 15D a three bedroom thatched roofed chalet. The high ceilings and spacious layout together with tiled floors throughout, granite tops and well maintained furniture and fittings ensured a luxurious stay. The bedrooms were all en suite with the third in a loft area meant space utilisation was optimised. The ergonomics of the unit worked well with the open plan kitchen, dining and lounge areas remaining somewhat separate through good design and wall angles. The veranda includes a built in braai (barbecue) and was a good place to enjoy breakfast, lunch or a sundowner. Mountains surround the resort and walking trails abound for the more athletic with the reward of spectacular views from the high ridges reached. Clarens golf course is 18 km away and serve a fine lunch as well as a good golfing experience. Quad biking, horse riding, tennis and mini golf are all available on site. The pub and restaurant has a cheerful atmosphere but on the night we were there the fare was disappointing (in particular the hake and chips and the vegetarian platter were below par). The Golden Gate National Park is a few km away and worth the visit. Remember to obtain a permit to use the National Park roads and routes. The charge is nominal. The Kiara Lodge resort is a wonderful retreat for young and old. Highly recommended.

We have booked a six bed chalet late last year and invited the kids with their partners to join us for the weekend.

We thorouhgly enjoyed the weekend at this quiet but well equipted resort. Early morning was time to catch some bass in the big pond, but no luck with the trout flies. Later the kids went horseriding before they then tackled the veld on the Quads. I went for a walk into the mountains and returned with some lovely photos. Early afternoon it was the mini golf challenge whereafter the women strolled down to the spa to book a treatment for the next day.

Saturday us men played golf at Clarens Golf Course nearby while the women went shopping in Clarens with its beatiful little shops and arts & craft market. We met them later at the local brewery where we spent a substantial amount of time. (Watching other people drink!)

Sunday was time for a proper wooden braai, before the kids had to take the road back to Gauteng. The wife and I stayed over and enjoyed the cozy fireplace in the chalet for one more evening.

Throughout the weekend the place was well maintained by the friendly staff who are followe around by the little meerkat's and other small animals.

We can certainly recommend this resort.

Room Tip: The chalets at the top has the best views but are further away from the main complex.

Just got back this evening from Kiara Lodge..just outside of the Golden Gate National Park.. what an amazing part of the world and Kiara Lodge is ideally situated, nestled in the mountain side.

the resort is family oriented, with lots of things to do - aimed at families... the staff were friendly and the service in general very good... the self catering apartment was really great with a deck with a an awesome view... the apartment was kitted out very well with new fittings and new sleeper couches in the lounge.

very enjoyable stay... will definitely recommend to anybody.

Room Tip: apartments 23 to 40 are 1st & 2nd floor units with great views...

The reason people come on holiday is too get away and get some rest not too hear banging and grinding three days in a row at eight in the morning thanks for making me feel right at home.
