“I wouldn't go back even if you paid me to”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013 via mobile

Where do I even begin? Service was beyond terrible. The lady at check in was not friendly at all. The rooms were not as bad as I expected but could certainly be improved. All 4 towels we received in the room on check in were stained. I called reception to have them changed and the guy who delivered them apologized and asked if there had been a mixup with our booking because maybe the room hadn't been completely cleaned before we came. Ummmmm.......really? He had seen us about an hour or so before at check in and the other lady at reception called housekeeping and they said the room was ready. The second lot of towels we received were a mixture of clean and stained.

We had dinner at the restaurant and it was bad. Firstly there was cat hair all over the table and we later saw the cat strolling in and out of the restaurant. Our food was so average. Garlic pizza bread for starter was an overkill of garlic. Yes we expected some garlic but it tasted like an entire bulb was on it. For mains the vegetables were all overcooked and like mush and I had to send my pizza back to be cooked further because it was still doughy though I doubt it was freshly made.

We didn't have breakfast in the cafe after our terrible dinner but we did notice a sign saying tour buses were priority at breakfast. Ha what a joke! Nice to see they value and prioritise their paying guests... Not!

The beach was across the road and that was pretty much the only good thing about this place.

We stayed for one night in a park side studio room. The size and space of the room was great, as was the full kitchen. The bed was fantastic, very comfortable and spacious with great cotton sheets.
Unfortunately the bathroom was small and the toilet very strangely placed giving very little room and the need to almost turn completely around to reach the paper on the holder! The bathroom in particular was very tired with peeling paint on the ceiling, and no standard plug for using a hairdryer or straighteners in front of the mirror.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper make sure you pack ear plugs. The walls are very thin and loud snoring is...

For the price I was extremely disappointed. This is definitely not 4* standard. The hotel states it is 'beachfront' but there is a public road between the hotel and beach where vehicles and camper vans etc park which blocked the view. The suite was spacious but 'tired'. The furniture was stained in places, the safe was not working for a couple of days, the hot tub lid had obviously been broken for sometime with a pile of sand in the bottom, the outside furniture was old and covered in bird droppings and the quality of towels was very poor as they were badly stained. Breakfast time was interesting as a coach pulled up for people to collect their food for the trip. This took priority over residents of the hotel so breakfast took ages. We also in the hotel one evening but the service was drawn out and the food was less than average. All in all, I think for the cost we could have done much better nearby.

Except for a not too friendly welcome, we had a wonderful stay. The location could not have been better! Our studio was perfect with a lovely view of the sea. Everything was clean, the dishwasher was a real bonus. We did not visit the restaurant but the cafe was great. Good food and friendly service. Fortunately signs warned us to be aware that buses would have priority at certain times so we planned to have breakfast just before that time. The staff were friendly and helpful. If I have to complain about something, it would be the computer with a very strange way of having to use a second password after every page. I would also prefer softer towels and could the sliding doors be serviced as we struggled to open and close them. But all in all it was a fabulous weekend. Thanks so much.

We stayed here because we got Grabone vouchers but I wouldn't pay full price! We stayed in a garden view room at the very end of an extremely long corridor which is a very odd way to lay out a resort. The room needed a lot of maintenance - dripping toilet, patio doors which were really hard to close and an electric socket coming out of the wall. The room was large and well equiped for self catering but we had vouchers for the restaurant as part of our deal so we went there the first night and had a good meal. Breakfast would have been good except that a coach full of tourists arrived and they are given priority over paying guests which I think is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. They don't turn up unexpectedly - these are booked tours and to make your guests wait while serving people who are not even staying there is the worst customer service ever!! We didn't eat at the restaurant again after that. Wireless internet is available at an inflated price and is very slow so don't pay for it unless you really need it! The only redeeming feature is the location just across the road from the beach.

Got on grad 1 deal, which was a bonus for a start. Last minute changes from 2 to 4 nights, that was no problem for them to sort rooms for us. First we had 1brm apartment on the park side, view was tropical with swimming pool, spa & tennis court - real pretty. Our next room we could have- was the studio beach view which was also lovely-beautiful view of the beach. We couldn't make up our mind which room so we just stayed in the same room. We viewed different rooms while we were there, they were all beautiful & clean. Ok towels could have been more softer but that's all. Had breakfast & dinner which we all enjoyed. Everyone very helpful there & once reception was closed in evening, I did like the idea of a night security guard & security dog, comforting to know. Very comfortable resort, loved our stay and we see you next time. Thank you all.

Stayed in a great room very well priced at $185. It was a single bedroom with an open plan kitchen lounge with beds for the 2 children. The full kitchen was great. the hotel was right on the beach and had a lovely pool and sauna . The area had plenty to do for walks and gave good access to Cape Reinga and the far north. We will certainly return

Room Tip: Choose rooms a little away from the reception area, they have better pool access.
