“Old world charm with all the modern amenities.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2012

We stayed at Relais San Pietro last summer with our two younger children ages 17 and 21. We were all delighted and charmed by the beauty of the location and the quality of the food and service. Signor Protti is a charming and gracious host. The views are spectacular and the setting is so welcoming and relaxing. The air conditioning in the rooms was more than adequate despite some 40 degree days, far more so than in a 5-star hotel in Rome we stayed in at the end of our trip. The rooms also offer free Wi-Fi. Every day we had fresh fruit in our rooms and we've never had nectarines as good as the ones in our room. We were all reluctant to leave, even the kids, and we plan on returning. Our oldest daughter, who couldn't make this trip, insists on going because of all the wonderful things she's heard us say about this place.

Beautiful, elegant quality in a Stunning, peaceful location high in the hills. Fabulous, simple food and room with fantastic view. First swim of the year much welcome after a long hot day. All beautifully laid on with no fuss. A true gem.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2012

On our journey out to Italy I was suddenly struck by the thought that I might have been making a terrible mistake. I had booked a whole fortnight in a tiny hotel that I knew nothing about other than what I had seen on the hotel's web site and on Trip Advisor. I need not have worried. This beautiful little hotel, high up in the Tuscan hills is excellent. The staff, led by the supremely efficient Signor Protti could not have been more friendly or more helpful. Signor Protti helped us plan our visits to all the Tuscan towns and cities that we wished to see and the charming Jalilla (who ran the restaurant) was a mine of information about shopping. The standard of service in this beautifully renovated 17th century hotel is of the highest; the rooms, though rustic in decor, are immaculate. The grounds are beautiful with terraces overlooking spectacular views of the Tuscan countryside. The food, served either in the pretty dining room or outside on the terrace, is excellent (the huge choice at breakfast being particularly memorable). We had planned to eat out from time to time but two forays into other restaurants in the area convinced us that it wasn't worth the effort - the food on offer at Relais San Pietro, although limited in terms of choice (particularly if you are staying for any length of time) was so perfectly cooked and presented that we ate in the hotel restaurant most evenings. All of this, together with the utter tranquility of the location, made it a perfect holiday.

To begin with, the location, high in the green Tuscan hills with in the far distance the medieval profile of Castiglion Fiorentino. Then Mr. Luigi Protti, always correct, friendly and helpful. The buildings, an old church property beautifully converted. Breakfast buffets were fabulous with a wide choice of good things, and perfect coffee. We had all of our dinners at the hotel and whatever we chose was delicious, served by a pleasant waitress. In summer one can eat outdoors, with beautiful views everywhere, but we also found the small diningroom very attractive. This hotel is beautifully furnished and the grounds are very attractive. There is no way we can suggest improvements, because everything was perfect.

It is difficult to write this review. The hotel is of an extremely high standard and attention to detail is meticulous. The location is stunning with wonderful views on the edge of a tiny Tuscan hilltop village.

Luigi, the rather elderly (I hope he doesn't mind me saying this) but charming owner offers the most polite and personal service you could hope for.

We had booked a triple room but they ended up giving us two rooms; one for us and one for our daughter without charging us any extra.

My wife, my daughter and I stayed here for a couple of nights earlier this month. The first night we ate in the restaurant - the food was excellent but quite limited in choice. The hotel seems to be entirely family run with the same people fulfilling different functions but in different uniforms.

So what's the problem? And it's only slight. One feels like a bit of a house guest. On the second night we returned about 9:45. Everything was locked up (we had been given a key!). We didn't feel comfortable trying to find someone to ask for a drink but luckily we had some wine left over from the previous night.

It's a charming and beautiful property but if, like us, you like to sit up and enjoy a few late night glasses of wine you may be slightly frustrated.

It was very quiet - we only saw three other room guests and no children. I wouldn't recommend for children.

A fantastic location and entirely relaxing stay. Rooms are individually decorated and, as will the facilties, reflect the attention to detail. Buffet breakfast and dinner are splendid.

A truly out of this world place to stay between Tuscany and Umbria. High on a hilltop overlooking views that are breathtaking, a romantically restored old stone building that oozes beauty, classic style, modern conveniences and attention to every detail. Service is perfect, breakfast is a delicious large buffet with cheeses, fruit, yogourt, pastries, eggs, fresh orange juice. Beautiful pool on the hill top just below a stone deck overlooking fantastic views, everything immaculately kept up. You don't find places like this any more, nor hosts like Signor Protti who brings a certain charm and style to his carefully tended hotel. It's a bit hard to get to without a GPS -- the web site lists the latitude/longitude which will make navigating there much easier. Great stepping stone to Cortona and Umbria.
