“A Tuscan dream”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

As part of a two weeks vacation to Tuscany, we stayed two nights at Casa Portagioia.
We have to concur to all the reviews and agree that this is indeed a special and lovely place in the middle of Tuscany, living up to the high expectations.

Marcello and Terry (owners of the place) run this place with a lot of charm, heart and open attitude towards their guests, making sure each stay is made special. We appreciated the individual recommendations on what to visit and where to eat in the nearby towns, being delivered with a lot enthusiasm.

We stayed in a lovely room, where all the details were taken care of, making sure we could relax and enjoy the stay. The place is generally wonderful and the pool (and view from the pool) is spectacular.

We didn't get the chance to enjoy dinner while staying here, but enjoying a lavish breakfast with local berries, 10 different kinds of cereal, fresh croissants, freshly squeezed juice, etc., all enjoyed in the beautiful garden surroundings. What a start to the day!

We met several guests coming on repeat visits (we understand why), and we too will make sure we will visit Marcello and Terrys place again in the near future if possible ...

Spent a very special few days at 'Casa Portagioia' with my fiance and parents. The location is picturesque, the rooms are of a very high standard and I cannot wait to return next year. (Fingers crossed!). Marcello and Terry are fantastic hosts and I would recommend 'Casa Portagioia' to anyone wishing to visit the idyllic surroundings of Tuscany. A very special experience indeed!

My wife and I stayed at Casa Portagioia for two nights on our way south from France to the Amalfi Coast and also on our way back north again for a further 3 nights. This is truly a gem right in the middle of Tuscany with the warmest of welcomes from Terry and Marcello. The bedrooms are immaculate, the bathrooms spotless and the breakfasts were wonderful. The advice on local restaurants and places to see is fantastic and we also had some wonderful 'chill out' time at the pool where there is complete silence and tranquillity.

It is easy to see why the Trip Advisor reviews for here are so excellent, over 650 people cannot be wrong. If the location works for you, do not consider anywhere else, it's simply perfect and as close as you will get to having your own home in Tuscany.

The title says it all.

Definitely the highlight of our 2 week trip in Italy! Loved the countryside and easy to find and get around if you follow the directions.

Lovely property, lovely couple, lovely room - everything was just fabulous. Delicious breakfast and lunches. Terry and Marcello were so helpful and gave us excellent tips.

Can't wait to go back! Thanks for everything!

Enough has been said about rooms, gardens, pool and so on - The title says it all.. Our stay in July was during a period that Marcello was our only host as Terry was hospitalized. During (no doubt) a tough time for them both, he managed with flying colors and made us all feel so welcome and, despite he wanting to be in two places at one time, he was there for all of his guests - with recommendations and good advice.

Thank you Marcello (and Terry) - a great stay and, next time we hope to see you both and, try one of your famous dinner evenings. Wishing Terry a great recovery

Room Tip: From what we heard at breakfast, each is very pleasant and comfortable

Marcello, one of the two owners that we met, was exceptionally hospitable and both he and "Casa Portagioia" left wonderful fond memories with us of this exceptional B & B in Tuscany,
Italy. He directed us to the local restaurants and places of interest and everywhere we went we received a big smile when we mentioned that Marcello had recommended them. Cheers.

There's little I can add in this review to emphasise the quality of this property and its owners, but here goes anyway.

Casa Portagioia was the third and final stop on a mini Grand Tour of Italy for me and my three 'girls' - wife and two grown up daughters. The others had been 4 Star hotels in Rome and Positano, which were fine, but missed the one thing that this property has the others are missing. Or should I say two things: Terry and Marcello!

From the moment we arrived and Marcello greeted us like long lost friends, it didn't feel like we staying in a hotel/B&B at all. It felt like we had been invited to an exclusive house party where the hosts' only objective was to ensure our complete happiness.

All I can say is: mission accomplished. The location is no less than Heaven On Earth, and after several days touring Ancient Rome, Pompeii and Positano, all we really wanted was to chill out. WHAT a place to do it: fabulous breakfast to start the day, beauty all around, accommodation to rival and indeed surpass that of a 4 Star hotel, and then comes the intangible 'ambience' created by Terry and Marcello. Amazing. When we did venture out to see the local sights, we were guided by Marcello and his sweet customised maps (don't miss Le Celle just outside Cortona by the way!), and I can only say that the restaurants Marcello recommended and booked for us were absolutely spot on.

The only disappointment was that Terry and Marcello had taken a break from staging their famous evening meals. I and the girls hope that everything works out for you both so that you can continue with them (and the planned pizza nights!) and we look forward very much to returning to see our new friends in Tuscany very soon. In fact I'm looking at available dates now!
