After being recommended this by a local friend who directs his agriturismo guests here, we finally got the chance to visit after receiving some good news in Arezzo and we pass this on the way home. Cast. Fiorentino is short on good places to eat near the centre so we had high hopes and weren't disappointed.
Tucked behind some unassuming apartment blocks off the main road, inside the restaurant interior is modern Tuscan country-chic with traditional stone walls offset with white linen and some clever lighting touches. Extensive pizza menu was dropped in favour of the generously loaded seafood dishes.
We shared a steam mussels (cozze) dish as a starter, then stringozzi (flat spaghetti-like ribbons) with vongole (lifted to another level with a dash of lemon zest) and paceri with seafood (generously loaded with mussels, clams, octopus, squid) in a rich tomato sauce. Delicious. For dessert we sidestepped with usual tiramisu et alia and instead shared an unusual stack of crumbly pastry with cream and fruit. The pineapple was lovely but could have left the apple out.
Only negative was that service was a bit flaky... only two working front of house with 80 guests and more arriving... so we had an unnervingly long wait between menus and ordering. But once ordered food arrived smoothly and tasted great. Still they took dessert off the bill (without us asking). Total bill €52 with half a bottle of wine in hand for tomorrow's lunch. So we left very happy – vowing to return again soon. Great find in Castiglion Fiorentino/Val di Chio. Recommended.
