“Relax and Enjoy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Beautiful house with stunning views. Pool was well heated so we all enjoyed swimming. Well stocked kitchen(s) if you'd like to cook. Access to the ocean via a trail in front of the house.

“A view to die for”

We stayed three nights with family at this magnificent location overlooking the ocean. The house is spacious and accommodated four adults and two children very comfortably. The decor is lovely and not overly pretentious or precious which gives you a sense of comfort. The most spectacular aspect of the house was the outside verandah perched high with an expansive view of the ocean. Even on chilly days it is difficult to draw yourself away and we were fortunate enough to see whales breaching and tail slapping as they migrated south.

There is no beach, only rocky outcrops and a rock ramble to explore and appreciate is a must do activity. We found wonderful deserted expanses of beach north and south to walk and explore. The house has all you need, including a much appreciated breakfast hamper starter pack, loads of crockery and kitchen implements. The one essential appliance missing and we took our own, is the Nespresso coffee machine.

The Butlers pantry was ideal and the owners have pretty much thought of everything one would need to entertain and cook in comfort. Be mindful that there are no shops in Falmouth and you need to bring your own provisions. Not an issue for us as we had come to Tassie on the ferry and bought our own other than perishables, which we took a drive north to St.Helen's where there is a substantial supermarket, bakery and bottle shop. Speaking of which there is a unique little brewery just south of the Ocean Retreat with a Providore and well worth the visit.

The upstairs bedroom or penthouse bedroom suite is spacious with a full ensuite bathroom including a bath furnished with Loccitane toiletries, heated towel rail and large fluffy towels. The bedroom does have a TV and chairs but I would have loved to have had a desk facing the ocean to sit at quietly away from the hustle and bustle of the downstairs entertaining area. The king size bed was extremely comfortable and we all slept well with only the sound of the ocean waves to keep us company.

There are three big bedrooms downstairs and we only required two of these so the third was locked. Each bedroom has it's own ensuite and robe, a king size bed and we were also provided with a cot and linen for our 2 year old, just perfect. We also appreciated the toddler gate at the bottom of the stairs to ensure safety.

The house was immaculately clean, and I am very fussy, so to pass my critical eye I give you ten out of ten.

We were a little disappointed that the downstairs TV in the small retreat off the laundry had been removed as this would have been an ideal area for the children to watch their TV programs and for the adults to have a choice of viewing when the main TV was in use.

Living in a coastal environment ourselves we can appreciate the ongoing upkeep of this property, it is open to all that the ocean location can throw its way. The rustic weathered timber facade nestles this house into its environment sensitively. The large expanses of glass maximize the view and it is often hard to drag yourself away from the lounge.

The plunge pool is a fantastic addition but the water temperature is set too low for comfortable enjoyment at this time of year, rather disappointing, we did give it a go but not for long, way too cold and not quite big enough to swim laps to keep you warm.

The outdoor area with fireplace is a sun catcher and protects you from the sea breezes, a delightful area to relax and enjoy.

As with all reviews an honest appraisal should also include the minor irritations and there were not many, for us the late checkin being 4pm after travelling from Melbourne and getting off the ferry at day break was too late, we had to kill time in between and we were all a bit over it by the time we arrived, it makes for a very long day.
It would be remiss of me to overlook and not mention the rules of which there are many, I have stayed in several beautiful homes and never have I felt so intimidated by a set of rules and their delivery. May I suggest a PR review of the rules to still incorporate the necessary OH&S legal requirements but with language tempered in such a way as to not be off putting.

I would also like to thank both Leanne from Total Luxury Australia and Louise from Select Retreats, both very thoughtful Managers who looked after us very professionally with our bookings and making us feel welcome. Nothing was too much trouble and we really appreciate their efforts to ensure all went well during our stay.

All things considered this is a delightful house in a beautiful location, perfect for a short stay with family and friends and highly recommended.

“Dolphin Watching at the serene Ocean Retreat, Falmouth”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013 for a stay in May 2013

My family and I have just spent a wonderful weekend at The Ocean Retreat, Falmouth in Tassie. We were lucky enough to have perfect weather, but even without this, I am certain our weekend would have been just as good, as the location and quality of this property is second to none. The house itself was well appointed and beautifully clean on our arrival.
The professional service we received from Events Worldwide Travel and the owners themselves was great, and we were made to feel welcome well before we arrived.
Being able to spend a weekend with loved ones sitting on that beautiful deck watching large pods of dolphins swim by while the children swam in the heated pool gave us a weekend to remember.
I would happily recommend The Ocean Retreat to anyone looking for a similar getaway.
