“Coron's backpacker's paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

We spent here three nights and would have stayed for many more if we'd been wise enough to book the room in advance. Very good value for price, accommodating staff, free drinking water and possibility to use kitchen were definite musts during our stay in Coron town.

This place is perfect for backpackers/people on a budget who don't mind sharing toilets. The location is just a stone's throw away from the town proper. There is a common area where there is a flat screen tv with cable. During brownouts, people from all over the globe come out to share their recent adventures and experiences giving it a very homey feel. The rooms and toilets are clean. You get free access to wifi, kitchen utensils/stove, free water and coffee all for only P380/room/night! Best of all, TJ, the owner is very accommodating and will even help you arrange tours!

Pros:
-TJ, the manager is very nice and accomodating.
-spacious, well ventilated space
-with free purified water, coffee, creamer, sugar
-free use of fast wifi, tv, kitchen and tools
-free towel and tissue at toilet
-comfortable bed and good running fan, with emergency lamp at the room
-the househelp is nice, kind enough to wash our dishes (this is not part of her work)
-in town proper- 2 mins walking distance to the town, restaurants, souveneir shops, stores, etc

CONS:
-rotating brown out
-saw poops at their living room early morning, they have a dog thats why, but when we came back after few hours, it was already cleaned.
-location is in a sort of shanty area, but is much better compared to shantys in metro.

If asked if i will stay here again, the answer is yes, i will. i just hope that there will be less brown outs.:)

Room Tip: get a room with a window.;)

My wife and I recently stayed at Coron Backpacker Guesthouse for 4 nights. This is a very unique place with a community vibe that we both found very welcoming. The owner/manager, TJ, is a very helpful and gracious guy. He arranged transfer to the airport for us and also answered all our questions relating to Coron. As mentioned, it's a traditional bamboo guesthouse over the water surrounded by local homes so it can be a little noisy at times but for us that just added to the charm. At 380p though you really can't go wrong though.

When TJ welcome you in this traditionnal over-water bamboo Guesthouse, you already feel like part of the family. It's composed of 8 rooms with fan, a large commun room with flat screen TV, Free Wifi (even in the room), fully equiped kitchen, fridge, free water, tea and coffee.

Moreover, TJ is an official eco-friendly guide who will be more than please to advise you on what to do around, with who and at which price. Staying in this GH was for me like discovering the true side of Coron.

Coron Backpacker GH is my best stay in Philippines !

Found Coron Backpackers by chance because we saw a little poster on the wall of Kuweba and we were surprised to learn that you could get a decent room for 380. When we checked the place out the next day, it was perfect!!

The place was clean and homey, it had a kitchen (so we could save on food), a bathroom that offered enough privacy to go #2, a nice living room where we could all watch downloaded movies (there was a usb port!!), the most helpful staff (TJ and ate Dina), and of course, decent rooms.

The rooms were simple fan rooms and the whole place was made of bamboo which made it not very soundproof, but also helped it stay cooler even during the occasional blackout that the entire town of Coron would suffer every now and then (minus the swanky hotels which had their own generators)

The communal space was roomy and comfortable which made people want to hang around it and also made for a great place to meet people and make friends. It's probably the only place in Coron town that has a communal space so well-suited for people travelling alone and looking to meet similar-minded people.

Stayed in Coron Backpackers for about 2 weeks and we were really sad to leave it. During our stay, TJ, the manager, just always made us feel at home. He was really helpful for getting the best and safest deals for tours and whatnot. And he also happily fixed everything that went wrong in the guesthouse (a lot of which was caused by my own clumsy companion)
