“Nice nature stay. Basic but good.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2014 via mobile

Good value, nice place to stay off the main island. Staff are great when the boss is around, but service definitely slips when Majika is not there - it was interesting to see the change upon her arrival. Good for a couple of days downtime. Boat crew and dive shop staff were consistently good.

Majika is on a private small island apart from everything where you can completely isolate yourself and unwind. Don't worry about not having much to do. All daily tours and activities are amazing! So you will enjoy every single day that you stay there to the fullest. There is nothing else in this island besides the resort so make sure you bring with you everything you might need. The cottages are very basic so be prepared to bring your towels and toiletries. No AC or hot water although they kindly warmed up water for us some rainy days when the temperature was on the cool side. They will help you out with a flashlight if you did not bring one. The food was really good and plentiful, fresh fish everyday! They did not offer much fruit though but they were super king in bringing down coconuts for us everyday! When we visited the town we got a lot of fruits for breakfast. All the sites in the Coron area are to die for. I saw pictures but honestly this area of Philippines exceeded all my expectations. Make sure you are out every day in the boat, the snorkeling sites are soooooo amazing there really is no need to dive. About their dive shop... not sure, I have only gone diving with Padi shops and can not really tell you if their dive shop is good or not but I would not do it as they are not Padi certified. To be completely honest snorkeling alone was amazing even though I love diving! We really loved this vacation and would totally come back. All the staff are super friendly and happy to help you all the time. The resort is very comfortable but I think they need to do a little better with the decoration. It should be more earthy and eco to go along with the island ambiance. I think this place is a diamond in the rock and would love to redecorate it my self because it has soooo much potential!

I was a little bit concerned, when it appeared that we shall pay for the whole stay (3D, 4N) before coming, but then we didn't regret. Majika's staff was waiting for us at the airport and from this moment everything was just great. The food they prepare is really nice and the portions are huge. You eat fresh seafood everyday - crab, tuna, grouper, squid - fantastic. It's impossible to be hungry there. The cottages are rather basic - no hot shower, no towels, no air condition (just fans), but it is ok when you prepare yourself for it. Their trips are special, organized without rush - coral and ship wrecks snorkeling and of course Coron Island. It's also possible to dive.
And Majika's team. From the beginning they tell you to feel like at home and they mean it. They are always smiling and in good mood, attentive and helpful. You don't know how to eat crab - they would show you. Last evening they organized us a romantic dinner on the beach - unforgettable. We were really surprised :)
You still can tell that there was a cyclone in November last year - many trees on Busuanga island are still broken. But on Apo island everything is ok, so you don't need to worry about that. The area is great, not so popular as Palawan, but probably similarly beautiful, so if you are looking for calm and relax, that's your place.

The Majika Island Beach Resort is a wonderful secluded place to relax and recharge your batteries. It is set on Apo Island some distance from Coron Town. A great experience that still makes me smile when I think about it. It is a small resort giving a very personal and intimate feel. The staff were excellent.

There are a couple of quirks. The first is that the website does not give prices, you need to supply details of your party and they provide a quote and itinerary. The second was that payment was a transfer to a US dollar account. This was a bit of a faff from the UK as the destination bank had no direct connection with a UK bank and an intermediary had to be used. I guess they have a peso payment method for locals.

I can understand why they want to give a quote as the holiday is all inclusive from meeting and returning you to Busuanga airport and their costs must vary depending on numbers booking. A group of 4 paid 12,200 pesos for a 4 night stay using two cottages including two all day trips by banca.

You get three meals and 5pm snack every day. Water. plus tea and coffee are included. Soft drinks, beer and additional snacks are for sale and they suggest if you want stronger alcoholic drinks you bring them with you. The food was great, plenty available served buffet style. Always a fish dish and usually an additional choice of a pork and/or chicken dish.

There are roughly 10 cottages (I did not count them!), each powered by its own off-grid system of solar panel and battery. No aircon, it was not needed with the sea breeze and fan. Cold water only. Being a wimp I do like a warm shower, but it was no hardship to do without.

There is no internet and mobile connectivity was almost non-existent.

The snorkelling at the coral garden and the Japanese wreck nearest the surface was stunning with the sheer variety of coloured coral and fish. There are at least two other Japanese wrecks from WWII, but you need to dive to access these. I do not dive so cannot comment on that.

The trips also included a visit to Coron Town, Kayangan Lake and Lake Barracuda. All guide fees and entrance fees for the trips are included in the holiday quote.

A great place and I thought amazing value for money.

Room Tip: I suspect they are all much the same.

Majika's Island Resort on Apo Island (close to the bigger Busuanga Island) is an amazing place for a relaxed adventurous holiday in the Philippines. The resort offers many trips related to the waters surrounding the resort's island. We did several snorkling, diving (shipwreck and coral) and island hopping trips which were all very well organized. The resort's staff is warm and helpful. Delicious food is served three times a day and the manu varies continuously.

If you want relaxation and solitude where you can enjoy nature, have a heart to heart talk with your loved ones, experience great food and service. This is a place for you.

There is less amenities than you will get from a hotel like aircon, restaurant, swimming pool and internet. But I think that is what makes this place special. All you get is back to basic house, great view of nature, great food (buffet style) and great service.

We tried snorkeling in shipwrecks and loved the view of corals and our boat rides. They also offer diving but we are too scared to try it.

Oh did I already mention the great food and very friendly staffs? They also have unlimited serving of their coffee, the best coffee ever we tasted in our lives, we are still trying to recreate the taste back home. :D

(This review is from a trip in April 2010.)

OK - where do I start.......

We found this place after much searching and debating on where to stay following a trip to El Nido. We were a bit concerned at first with sending money abroad and not booking on line however you need not worry. This place is genuine!

We arrived late and Majika had already made plans to wait around for us despite not being able to reach us on the mobile. Meeting Majika is like seeing a long lost relative. She greeted us with a loud and inviting "Hello I am Majika!" along with a big hug. After a long trip this was really nice.
A short trip in their 4x4 and we arrive at the water to board the Banca (banka?) boat to the island through the mangroves in almost complete darkness.

When we rounded the final corner and the island comes into view it is a sight you will never forget. It really does look like every paradise you every imagined.

We were greeted by the staff and shown through to the bar/dining area where food was waiting. A great local feast and a beer and we headed to our room. The rooms are gorgeous little huts, comfy beds, plenty of place, a front porch and a good shower - something rare in the Phillipines.
Our room even came complete with a local lizard that makes a very unusual sound but didnt disturb sleep at all. To top it all off we were the only guests for the first two nights.

The on site dive instructor is brilliant and will take you to see some amazing wrecks right just of the island - it is literally on your doorstep. Then on to the hot springs which are a short walk through the mangroves.

Day trips can be taken to local beauty spots and lagoons and they really are worth it .

The food each night was something different and always well cooked. Cold drinks and beer on hand at a very reasonable price - they will even keep your drinks cold if you happen to have brought your own.

This dining area/bar has plenty of fans and also a pool table, tv etc. Any Australians among you will notice the Carlton poster behind the bar - I will leave Majika to tell you that story.

All the staff live their on the island and they all make you feel like family. Majika is a mother to everyone it seems! She really cares about people and looks after those one the mainland as well through her various projects.

The best part of this place is that you are on a private island - just you and a handful of other guests. An experience that would cost a fortune in any other part of the world. You can sit on the jetty and watch the sunset or climb to the peak of the island and view it form there. You have to see it form both places!.

Forget EVERYWHERE else in CORON. This is the place to go.

Room Tip: Dont worry - every room is amazing!
