“Great Summer Fun!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

My group of college friends stayed at Majika’s this summer. Doing our research for the trip, we had a choice of staying at the cheap lodges or hotels at Coron town, at ultra expensive exclusive resorts or at this fairly priced island resort. Bad feedback from our other friends who experienced staying in Coron town accommodations led us to this booking.

We were extremely happy that we made the right choice. The moment we set out to sea after the land transfer from the airport, we were amazed by the awesome scenery. The cottages were rustic. No aircon, but comfortable enough. The clean and fresh air in the resort provided a nice respite from the polluted city air of Manila.

We spent the whole vacation on island hopping tours and doing endless adventure activities. Firefly watching was unique. We even saw shooting stars at night. But the activity I enjoyed most is fish feeding while standing on a World War II shipwreck. It was great as advertized! The food served in the resort gave us the needed energy to do this. Some of us even gained weight; home-cooked food prepared the old-fashioned way.

I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to visit Coron.

My husband and I celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary in Coron,Palawan. We already had plane tickets but didn't have a plan as to where we were gonna spend our 6 days in Coron. I googled some resorts and hotels and it just so happened that Majika Resort was one of them. On the plane, we met a nice lady who for some reason shared that she stayed in Majika before. Other than affordable packages, she said the crew was very nice. As soon as we got to the airport, I started calling the number found in Majika Resort's website. 2 missed calls, no answer. On my third attempt, a very warm sounding woman answered my call. We got to Coron at 6pm and was told that it was too late to go to Majika Island Resort. Apparently, the waters aren't that safe at night. But the woman talking to me didn't stop there. She suggested other lodges in town where we can stay for the night. She even said we can tell the locals that we're family friends of Majika. That was oddly nice but nice anyway.

All lodges and hotels were fully booked when we got to town. My husband and I were very worried. It didn't help that we felt really tired from waiting and walking around. We got bored and decided to just drop by the Majika shop in town to meet the owner - Majika. We were ushered by really kind ladies. When we got to Majika's house, she welcomed us like she's known us for years. She gave us refreshments while she explained how she can help us in the next couple of days. When Majika found out that we didn't have a place to stay for the night, she offered one of her rooms in her house - free. I mean seriously, who does that? She just met us but she trusted us and made us feel very welcome. She was really nice.We felt really shy and decided to look for a cheap room just for the night instead.

The next morning, we were fetched by the Majika van. The men were very accommodating. When we met Majika to settle our payment before going to the Majika resort, she gave us a bag of crab. She said it's her anniversary gift to us. How cool is that?! :D

The van drove us to the boat that was gonna take us to the actual island resort. We met Kuya Marlon who was very nice as well. Honestly, my husband and I thought we were in Pleasantville or something.hahah! It was a 45 minute ride to the island resort. We were warned that there might be jellyfish by the shore and were told that they can take us to another area where we can swim safely. We didn't mind at all. You have to give it to them; They keep the mangroves by the shore because they are very environmentally aware of the mangroves' purpose. They keep the fish and other sea animals safe.

The whole 5 day tour with Kuya Marlon was awesome. AWEsome. He had such a good humor that we were laughing all the time. No kidding.hehheh The crew back in the island resort are equally nice. They made sure that we had a lot of food. We couldn't even finish what they serve every time we eat. Mind you, my husband and I eat a lot. We would make requests like we'd want mangoes whenever we eat. They would climb their trees just to give us what we wanted. There was another group that planned a surprise baby shower for their friend and the whole crew was in it. They decorated an area in the resort and it looked really pretty. <You can check the attached photos>

Overall, it was a great experience. Though there was no air-conditioning in the rooms, the experience wasn't bad at all. They have fans anyway. And it's Coron. It's supposed to be about nature.. To break away from the norms of the city. The people in Majika are just awesomely nice. Really a goodhearted bunch. A day after we got back to Manila, we already started missing them. :D

Tita Majika, kuya Marlon, ate Tintin, Joyce aka small but terrible <because she's tiny but gives one hell of a massage>, Arnel and everyone in Majika --- THANK YOU for making sure our stay was enjoyable. We're thinking of going back there in August.hihihih Hope to see you soon! :D

First, the hospitality is so wonderful. You will really feel that the majika team is your extended family. Ate Majie, eventhough we havent met you personally yet, we feel you are as nice as your team. So friendly and generous, i like how you trained your team for being so hospitable.
Next, the price is affordable, worth it. The food is also great and enough for us. We have to get full each and every delicious meal for the adventure we will take.
Then, the adventure is so much a lot of fun with kuya marlon, ate vanjie and whole gang. After our 4 days stay there, We will surely recommend Majika for a wonderful vacation! If we had a chance, we will go back again. We miss you guys!!

From the moment we arrived at Majika (no, even before, when we were met at the airport) we felt like visiting friends rather than paying guests. Actually, you DO pay for Majika, and it is perhaps not cheap, but you will get value for every penny. The staff, headed by Tingting, completely take you under their wing. You want more mango? You want that coconut high up in the tree? You want to be taken to the floating boathouse for a bit of snorkelling? It is all included in the package. We were a family of four, and we stayed at Majika for three nights. We fully enjoyed it.

I stayed at Majika resort late January 2013, and for the cost, I was so impressed with the package that they offered. Cabins were clean and tidy, and were of fairly decent size! Being part of a group of over 20 people staying (Filipinos, Americans, Japanese, and Australians), I was impressed with how smoothly the resort ran. The resort staff were always attentive to our needs, and were always friendly and courteous. If you needed anything, you need only ask. The day tours were really well thought out, and captured the essence of Palawan. Of an afternoon, it was awesome just to kick back with a beer, and enjoy the tranquillity of the water and the beautiful sunset.

With regards to the meals, there was great variety.. And plenty enough food to go around to satisfy! Being Australian, I particularly loved tasting the authentic Philippine cuisine... And also enjoyed some other dishes I was used to back home, for example the crumbed fish!! The Longanisa was to die for!

Kudos to Maj the owner, and Tintin the manager, who ensured that our stay there was a wonderful balance of adventure and relaxation. You just really felt at home!

While we expected that there would be no aircon, no towels, bathroom amenities, we did not expect that there would be no electricity from 8 am to 5 pm. During the last 2 days of our 5 day vacation, the pump for the toilets broke down, and the toilets could be flushed by pouring pails of water down the bowl. In fact they don't clean the rooms unless you ask them to.
First of all, we got a raw deal. We were allocated 5 cottages and 5 guest rooms for 25 adults and 1 child. Because they had overbooked, we ended up with 7 cottages. What they failed to mention was that the first cottage had a rotting toilet door that would not close, and that the 7th cottage was meant for only 2, instead of 4 occupants. The obnxious manager, Tintin agreed to give us a guest room only after much heated discussion.
Second, the food was pathetic. Don't get fooled by the great photos on their website and facebook. Food quantity would be okay if you were on a diet. If you happen to come in late for meals, you'd be lucky to have any meat left. The menu was repetitive --- longganisa or luncheon meat for breakfast, tinola, adobo and fried samaral for lunch and dinner. We had to ask the boatmen to buy and cook for us to augment the meals provided. Even when we had lunch in one of the islands, we did not have enough plates. Truly pathetic!
Coron's saving grace is the beauty of the islands. Undeniably awesome! Marlon and his boatmen, Vangie and Lisa were the only saving grace of Majika.
Much as I would like to go back to Coron, it will have to wait until we find better accommodations. Majika's value proposition truly SUCKS!!!

Dear Cindy V,

Even if our resort serves buffet style meals where a second helping is most welcome, we profusely apologize for underestimating the enormous appetite of your group. We should have realized that the Christmas season in the Philippines is really a month long food fest where enjoying delicious food is a daily event due to numerous parties (both for companies and schools) as well as family reunions. We appreciate your decision to have spent December 26 to 30 2012 with us.

It was unfortunate that the pump broke down at the busiest time of the year. Electrical power is now available for guests since additional capacity has been installed. And the cottage has been repaired.

We thank you for your appreciation of Coron’s amazing natural wonders. Our resort is located at the doorstep of Coron’s best tourist destinations. Some are a few minutes from your cottage. We will continually try harder to provide better accommodation and tours at this ideal location at a very reasonable rate.

Sincerely yours,
Majie Palanca
