“Great beers, great food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

Okay, so the place is a little old, that is the ambience! Had lunch there today and had a wonderful cider and dark ale. They have flights, and lots of choices, only issue is that there is no beer menu, except on the blackboard. Personally, I need time to peruse and decide, but staff were great at narrowing down our choices.

Had wonderful crab cakes with curry sauce, Reuben marbles...rolled up corned beef and cheese rolled in bread crumbs and fried...very good, if a tad heavy for an 'appy'. Mains were a Mediterranean salad that was good, but too much lettuce and too little tomato or cucumber, and the hot italian sausage on a roll lunch special.

Other items on the menu looked really interesting. We will be back.

“Could be great...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

Been to the King Eddie with family several times especially for the Prime Rib with Yorkshire and have found inconsistencies with the food quality. On one occasion, no Yorkshires available, probably a kitchen failure - did not rise - no explanation however. On other occasions, the food arrived cold - no heated plates.

Since then, I always request hot food - this should not be a big deal for the kitchen staff but again, very inconsistent. It seems to be hit and miss from time to time - no explanation.

The beef is very tender, large portions and reservations for the prime rib dinner is a must cause sometimes they run out - yorkshires are large, gravy is tasty but sometimes too much on the plate. Potato's are mashed and OK.

Beer is top drawer, cold and plentiful, selections both on tap or bottled.

Service is never a problem, prompt and courteous.

The kitchen needs to get their act together and produce good hot food and they would have a real winner at this location in Ilderton - yes it's just a 10 minute drive from London's west end.

“Cask Ale Here!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

The best thing about the King Edward Pub is that it is the only place around the London area that serves cask ale. Admittedly, "real ale" is an acquired taste and I am always amazed at the number of people in the pub drinking inferior tap ales or, worse, bottle beers. Come on folks, you can drink bottle beer at home! The place does feel like a genuine English Pub, complete with sports (sadly not cricket) on the big screen TV. Perhaps this English feel is not surprising as the owner is from there. Sadly, I cannot recommend the patio unless you enjoy being in a sort of back alley overlooking parked cars. I consider this more of a winter than summer venue, myself. The food varies from very good to so-so. but then it is a pub! As other reviewers have noted, this pub is not actually in London but rather in a little town called Ilderton, about 10 km north, depending on where you start from.

“This place takes beer seriously!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

If you want "cask-conditioned" beer look no further. We've been coming here for several years now. The food is a step above what you would find in a typical British Pub. (Try the Savoury Mediterranean Rice) The quality of the beer is what keeps me coming back.
(The address above lists this place as being "in" London. This place is in Ilderton and Ilderton is a lovely 10 minute drive north of London city limits.)
Keep up the great work King Eddy!
Cheers!
