“What a surprise!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2012

Arriving at the Radio Springs Hotel for an intimate gathering for a friends 40th birthday lunch on a Sunday afternoon, I was led through the tiny bar into a beautiful, eclectic dining room and lounge area. A mish mash of books, vibrants colours, non matching furniture, dimmed lights and a fun, quirky feeling greeted me, along with friendly and helpful staff.
Lunch was tasty, simple food, service was prompt and the wine...yum! The 5 piece banjo, guitar, violin etc band absolutely made the atmosphere fun and interesting, especially when we had them all to ourselves for a happy birthday serenade for our friend and encore performance. Lots of knee slapping and laughs!
A perfect was to spend a lazy Sunday with a twist.

This hostelryin a tiny hamlet (Lyonville) in the Victorian spa country has all the modern amenities that one could want while invoking some nostalgic memories also. The bar is cheery and traditional - no TV or poker machines here! There is an interesting menu served in the adjoining dining room which is decorated with vases, lamps etc from the 30s and 40s.
There is live music Thursday to Sunday - we were treated to some world class bluegrass music but I understand that everything from classical to rock is featured at times. A room between the dining room and the bar is used for the musicians. The intimacy of this setup adds to the enjoyment.
There is roaring log fires in the winter and a large open area for use in the summer. The staff are obliging and fun and have interesting backgrounds.
This hotel is about 75 minutes from Melbourne, which some could see as a disincentive in the winter. There is accommodation available. We stayed in a large room with a king sized bed made with cosy quilts etc. I wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the room - there was loads of interesting books, an old fashioned gramophone with records and doors opening onto a verandah from which to view the activity in the neighbourhood in the morning. The breakfast was large and delicious and served with good humour and lots of local info. After one night here we felt as though our batteries were recharged. I look forward to going back!

We were on a slow ride through the Daylesford area one day just following the nose of the car . We had just had a very nice meal in one of the wonderful small shops , and were trying to find the road back to Sunbury, Victoria , As usual we did happen toget a bit lost but decided to see where the road took us, which was one of the best decisions we had made on that week end . The area was fantastic ,great scenery and a good road . About half an hour later we came into the township of Lyonville ,which is where we had our encounter with the Radio Springs Hotel . We walked in to the hotel and we both said "WOW " at the same time . " How long has this place been here ? " It was one of the most pleasurable afternoons and evenings we had experienced on our trip. The people who were running the place were so kind and helpful . The meals were excellent , and the service was all that we could have expected , and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves . It was a lovely, cosy enviorment , and a fitting end to our vist to that area . I had recently been surfing the net and stumbled on this site . We now live in Queensland but It brought back some nice memories of when we found this little oasis . Thank you .

We took a chance and rang to ask if there was any accomodation to be had and luckily for us there was! We were greeted warmly by Ken who proferred some pretty impressive wines in his funny little bar. The menu was decidedly Italian.Chef Dom is a character and the food was lovely and reasonably priced. Jackie looked after us very well. They have a special Thai menu on Wednesdays which attracts people from afar attested to by the couple at a near table who dine at Radio Springs regularly and live halfway to Melbourne! Our room was a hoot. A fabulous, comfy kingsize bed. Quirky decorating and colour schemes. Clean ensuite with big fluffy towels. There is a red guest lounge/dining room with plenty to look at. Another eclectic dining room, outside seating and other nooks and crannies. All with roaring fires. Ken strives to have live music nightly and supports the local talent . Dom's Calabrasee Breakfast included in the B & B price was something you won't find anywhere else in Daylesford. Room 1 really impressed us with its open fire, armchairs and huge ensuite with claw foot bath. Really worth booking for a couple of days midweek to totally chill out. Cute little town to explore. We'll go back.
