What a magical day we had on Ulva! To summon the little ferry just slide the board on the quayside to red and within minutes the very friendly ferryman is on his way to collect you. Ulva is a beautiful and tranquil island and despite the conditions underfoot (there had been torrential rain the previous day) we enjoyed every minute of the 3 1/2 hrs we spent following a well signposted walk through a variety of scenery. A visit to Sheila's cottage is a moving experience - how hard life must have been there!! On returning to the quay we thought a pot of tea and slice of homemade cake would hit the spot but heard a passing couple talking about the delicious prawns so decided to order a plate to share as something to nibble with our drink - Ha!!! the plate was a sight to behold and the warm Ulva prawns looked like young lobsters!!!!! They came with 2 large slices of homemade bread, mayo and side salad - all we can say is food was mouth-wateringly delicious and excellent value!
The staff were lovely and YES (if we didn't live over 700 miles away) we would eat there again on a very regular basis. Do not pass up the chance of visiting Ulva and eating at the Boathouse.
