“Superb Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

What a magical day we had on Ulva! To summon the little ferry just slide the board on the quayside to red and within minutes the very friendly ferryman is on his way to collect you. Ulva is a beautiful and tranquil island and despite the conditions underfoot (there had been torrential rain the previous day) we enjoyed every minute of the 3 1/2 hrs we spent following a well signposted walk through a variety of scenery. A visit to Sheila's cottage is a moving experience - how hard life must have been there!! On returning to the quay we thought a pot of tea and slice of homemade cake would hit the spot but heard a passing couple talking about the delicious prawns so decided to order a plate to share as something to nibble with our drink - Ha!!! the plate was a sight to behold and the warm Ulva prawns looked like young lobsters!!!!! They came with 2 large slices of homemade bread, mayo and side salad - all we can say is food was mouth-wateringly delicious and excellent value!
The staff were lovely and YES (if we didn't live over 700 miles away) we would eat there again on a very regular basis. Do not pass up the chance of visiting Ulva and eating at the Boathouse.

“What a tale of woe but nothing to do with the cafe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

I cannot share our tale except to say that we needed to call out the RAC to sort out a problem with our car and it took several hours. Both the ferryman and the staff at the cafe were most helpful in this regard.

As to the cafe, the choices were very varied and the food when it came, bearing in mind this was lunchtime, was just superb.

We never did get to walk on the Island so we will just have to go back and then make use of the cafe again.

“Wonderful seafood and baked treats”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

Ulva is a nice little island, with lovely signposted walks and this lovely restaurant. We had prawns with excellent fresh bread and salad, apple pie and lemon drizzle cake. The prawns were nice, but the baked goods were superb. Just the sort of place you hope to find when on vacation!

“Excellent seafood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

There's not much on Ulva but what there is is good, including the Boathouse and its seafood. Where else can you get half a lobster (just caught) for £8.50.
