“Hilperton to Pewsey - Monday to Friday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2014

Had a fantastic few days on the Corn Bunting from ABC Boat Hire at Hilperton Marina.

Spent the first night at The Barge Inn; had a lovely meal and a peaceful night. Second night at All Cannings; spectacular scenery and another lovely friendly pub - the Kings Arms.

Third night spent at the top of the Caen Lock Flight (lovely ice cream!), and the last night at the side of the canal just ten minutes away from the boatyard.
The boat was lovely; had microwave, fridge with freezer box, electricity sockets, digital TV, CD player etc. - although no filter coffee machine (as was advertised).

The only real irritation is that you book five days but can't pick up the boat until 3pm & can't get away from the boatyard until about 4pm, then you have to have your boat returned and completely emptied by 9.30am on Friday.... therefore you only really have just over 3 days.

The canal itself is fantastic; probably the nicest we have been on. It has everything; pretty towns, unspoilt countryside, lovely pubs, the spectacular Caen Lock Flight, numerous swing bridges and aqueducts, and never too crowded to find a spot to moor (June 2014).

Will definitely visit again!

“Hilperton Marina Day Boat Hire - Good but very busy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2014

We were invited on a day trip by our friends and the weather was awful but it brightened up later. The trip was great - we had everything we needed on the boat including a kettle and cooker. Our eyes were opened as to how many people frequent the canal on day trips. We saw Mario World characters and lots of Pirates, we even saw some young men in boating gear. They all looked like they were having a blast. We had a couple of crashes along with half a dozen other people. It was a fantastic day out even in the rain. The views are really nice and there is even art work along the canal edge. Highly recommend hiring a boat and getting out on the canal at any time of year.

“Trip from Hilperton”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2014

We hired a boat from alverchurch from hilperton for the week, The pick up was nice and simple, we loaded our things onto the boat and had a tour of the boat before the mechanic explaining how everything works, giving us a short lesson and letting us set off!! You are able to leave your car just over the bridge close to the site which is easy and convenient!

They explained how to use locks and what to do if there were any issues as well as asking for a brief plan of the trip. We had good weather and had a brilliant time, the boat was in good condition and good for what we needed :)

“Average canal but best canal boat”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2014

We have been hiring narrow boats every year since 1975. From experience we homed in on Alvechurch boats as the best. We used them so often that we qualified for their highest discount. But this year we discovered Moonboats on the K & A canal,. Fantastic. Ten feet wide makes for a major improvement in comfort. The boats are fitted out to the ultimate in luxury. Quality mattresses and bed linen, quality kitchen utensils, Jacuzzi, solid fuel stove. this has to be the best on the UK canal network.

By comparison, the canal is average but the Dundas Arms at Kintbury is worth a visit. We went by train (canalside) from Bedwyn to Kintbury and back.
