Owner description: Seal Bay offers one of the most exceptional nature-based experiences in the world. Fees are invested into ongoing research and conservation efforts and through these efforts we hope to preserve the natural habitat of a wild Australian sea lion colony for generations to come. Our tours are designed to suit a wide variety of visitors - you can stay all day if you want to! There are no enclosures or cages at Seal Bay. Instead, you will be taken into the heart of the colony where our experienced guides will teach you more about these endangered animals. Visitors given a unique insight into how these endangered animals fish, surf, rest, interact with their pups and defend their territory. If you prefer, you can set your own pace on the wheelchair accessible 300 metre boardwalk which meanders through the dunes to a number of viewing platforms.

“Quality of guided tour depends on guide.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

This was the second time I have done this tour. The price of the guided tour is a bit steep considering the size of the groups but we had a parks pass.

Excellent aspects: Watch the sea lions a bit closer and being able to go down to the beach to watch them for over half an hour.

Negative aspects: The elderly lady playing tour guide although she did not appear to have an in depth knowledge expected for a $32 tour. Not letting us take photos while she talked really dampened the experience because she was talking too much without providing much information. Compared to the other guides she also kept us further away from the sea lions as if she were afraid.

Anyway, I did this tour before with a really knowledgeable and good guide who made this tour an exciting experience. So it really depends what guide you get.

“Seal bay kangaroo island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

We were well guided during the trip. Amazing view plus Seals were playing on the beach. The tourist guide gave a long story about the seals but wasn't able to listen well due to loud noise from the ocean plus it was scorching hot! Thumbs up for the information centres in Australia.

Great guide and getting up close to the seals. Watching the young seals playing in the surf was a once in a lifetime experience.
