“Mind Blowing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2012

It was our first honeymoon trip. We took a taxi from an Airport and we were waiting to see how was the resort. When we just reached the place, it was mind blowing. It was a large area with greenery, back water, floating cottages, swimming pool. To be more specific, the place itself was like a Island with backwaters within it. Our stay was in the floating cottage and the food was complimentary for us. Now I should really tell about the food. The variety was extremely good. We stayed there 3 days and 2 nights. Almost none of the items were repeated in those three days (3 times a day). Coming to the floating cottage, it was like a dream house. The total area was very large. The entire floating cottage was centralized with AC like including the entrance, hall, bedroom and the bathroom. The bathroom contained a seperate glass cubicle shower area. It was modern and gorgeous.. We had a seperate bedroom with two side shutters to it. That is we can go to the bedroom from the living room and also from the entrance or the bathroom. So entirely the floating cottage was superb. Hey there is one more thing I forgot about the cottage, we have a private sit out ( balcony). From the balcony the view towards to the backwater is extraordinary. There were lot of fun activities. The most exciting was the motor boat ride in the back waters. That was really fun and joyful. Dont miss it!!! There is no need of second thought regarding this place. You can go for it or else you are going to miss this Palace!!!!

Room Tip: Floating cottages are the best, best and the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We visited the place with our family for a family vacation with kids and the first glimpse of the resort was breathtaking. Nestled amongst verdant green with meandering walkway along the back waters, you actually felt you were walking on water. We took 2 floating cottages with our family and the view from the sit out overlooking the backwater and fishing nets was beautiful. The food only buffet was a lavish spread of mostly north and south Indian cuisine, however if you went at peak hours and the resort was full, you'd probably be waiting for most things on either the buffet or your crockery and cutlery. The only issue was the housekeeping was a bit slow, but when you come to a resort that is to be expected and they never had extra towels on standby since their laundry was outsourced. The pillows used at the resort were not such agreat quality since it did give me a crick in the neck the following day. The other extremely annoying bit was the cab hire which is an issue with the local cab union in the state. We had asked for our cab to come from Trivandrum which the local cab drivers stopped at the gate. After much ado and speaking to the resort, they allowed our cab to come in. The resort management also expressed their inability to sort this issue out. A visit to Quillon town and light house was nice if you wish to shop for some spices especially cashews. The Lunch at Mahalaxmi restaurant at Quillon town was good if you are looking for typical Kerala cuisine in a very clean but very basic environs. Gorge on the fish and rice as much as you can. Another interesting bit was local fishermen on their small boat passing by were happy to sell their wares to the resort guest who bought fresh seafood and requested the resort to make them to their requirements. The children play area at the resort was clean and well equipped. The SPA was good but if you are a SPA person, then you would find the treatment lacking a bit .Overall a must do for the sheer beauty of the place. The weather gets quite sultry and still in the evenings if you go at the wrong time . Speed boat ride was great fun and exciting for the kids as well or take the option of the large house boat and a 2 hours cruise through the back waters.

Room Tip: Please make sure you check on the cabs since there is a Union problem in Kerela and sometimes the lo...

I was on vacation with my wife for three days and stayed in their Floating Cottage. This place is very peaceful and the resort staff is very efficient. They hardly leave any stone unturned to provide the best services. The best part was Jet Motor Boat Ride to village.I strongly wish to get back to this place for another holiday and relish the fun of Ashtamudi Retreat.
This place is undoubtedly HEAVEN on EARTH.

We stayed here just for 1 night... The room & resort is very good... We stayed in the floating cottage and found it beautiful... It’s entirely wooden but clean and well maintained. It’s worth the extra debit of days the Club Mahindra guys charge for floating cottages... Though, I didn’t see their normal rooms, I believe it would not make sense to stay in their normal rooms (there are hardly any local attractions in Ashtamudi.... the “floating cottage” is the exotic thing to be done here)

However, we were not that happy with the food. It was relatively a little pricey and not that good. (Not sure about non-veg food as I'm a pure veggie)

Took a flight to Trivandrum airport, then by taxi to the railway station (Rs 350 for the 30 minute drive) followed by a train to Kollam station. From Kollam railway station the resort is about a 30 minute drive,(the pre booked taxi cost Rs 400).
The resort is upto Club Mahindra standards, the floating cottages are the ones to go for. The food in the restaurant is very good with a good variety of dishes at the breakfast and dinner buffet.
Staff are helpful, but communication can be a problem, so double check that your request has been understood.
Overall the location provides a relaxing and tranquil break well worth the long journey to get there.

Room Tip: Book one of the floating cottages if possible, the location is serene.

We reached here after a long drive from Poovar, but the place is very quite & relaxing which is exactly what we wanted. We stayed in a room in one of the land cottages which was very small, would definitely recommend the floating cottages which have fantastic views & are more spacious.

The hotel is situated in the interiors of Kollam towards the Backwaters which makes it a little difficult to reach. Nevertheless, the hotel is very beautiful with floating cottages and land cottages as well. The rooms are relatively small as compared to other Mahindra Resorts but are very comfortable and have a sit-out .Once you reach here it is very relaxing & peaceful. There is a beautiful floating restaurant where one can sit & enjoy your food watching the small fishing boats float by.The food served here is good with plenty of options.

An ideal place to stay if relaxation is the only thing on your mind.Take the boat trip to explore the backwaters which the hotel will arrange for you.

Since this place is far away from the main highway one must ensure that you have your own vehicle.

Room Tip: Without a doubt the floating cottages.

Reached here after a dreadful drive but this is just the place one would want to be at the end of it. I would not expect anything less from Club Mahindra. I stayed in a room on the land and it was great. The views fantastic, floating restaurant very nice and the orchids on the coconut trees a very nice touch.

Room Tip: Choose the rooms on the land, I feel they are better maintained.
