Dog friendly country pub with excellent beer, good food and great views. It can get very busy, but it's definitely worth the trip. Food can range from good to excellent, but never been disappointed.

“Could be wonderful”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

We went to the Cross Foxes for in impromptu early dinner on Sunday. The location of this place is excellent and the views across the River are gorgeous. The grounds are really pretty and our children enjoyed rolling down the banks and playing in the play area. But - what an AWFUL smell out there. I don't know if they need a septic tank emptying or what on earth it was, but it was really incredibly unpleasant. There were a few people sitting outside - I don't know how they did it. We sat in the conservatory room, which is lovely, but the smell occasionally wafted in there too. Unfortunately, the food wasn't of a great standard either. It was extremely mediocre for the price, (upper end pub prices.) My husband had roast pork, his roast potatoes were hard and flavourless. I had Indonesian Curry, it was ok, but I've had lots better. The children's meals were nice enough, but again, hard potatoes on my son's plate. We heard another table complaining about their potates and the general tastelessness of their dinners. And the staff, who were pleasant, did take them back. I got the impression they are used to swapping meals. Ours wasn't terrible enough to send anything back, but we felt it was an underwhelming, disappointing meal. It's a shame because once it filled up a bit, it was a pleasant atmosphere, just lacks in the most important area - the food!!! And, sort the smell out!!!!

“Great Place - Simple!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2012

Cracking place - we go back time and time again. Slightly over the odds cost-wise perhaps, but you get what you pay for and we have never had a bad meal. Staff usually friendly and efficient. Menu always varied but with regular staples too. Nice range of drinks too. Well done cross foxes and keep it up.

“Nice place to relax and enjoy food.”

Ate here with a group of friends for a birthday celebration. Food, service and location excellent. Im sure we'll be back soon. Shame they had run out of fish and chips though.

“Great Location and service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012

The service is first class and the beer selection excellent, the pub itself is in a superb location and has a typical old style type layout. Menu is varied with a selection for most tastes. Personally I think it would benefit from a 'daily specials board' but what we had was very good.
