“beautiful location and rooms, bland food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2009

The location is beautiful with stunning views of the beach from your room. The rooms are beautifully appointed and romantic with a bath tub just behind the platform bed. After an initial hiccup with check-in (took over 2 hours to settle down in our room as staff did not understand that the room smelled of mildew and a simple scent burner would fix the problem, as they wanted to charge for that small thing, after charging over USD500 per night for room) the staff were professional and helpful. They did remember my spouse's birthday and brought beautiful roses and a birthday cake.
The place is well situated and run a regular shuttle service to Hoi An which is a beautiful old town and seriously chic.
The food whilst well presented is quite bland and ordinary for such a high end place especially when it is quite expensive. The spa is fantastic albeit over the top expensive.
Its a good place for a few days of pampering if value for money is not a consideration. The concierge is very helpful and will organise visas upon arrival if you contact them a week or so in advance.

The Nam Hai is a beautiful resort. It is quite small, so you don't get that feeling of being anonymous as with some other large, splashier resorts. My boyfriend and I stayed for four nights, and thoroughly enjoyed our time there - so much so that we scarcely left the resort during that time, except for a brief stint into Hoi An for some shopping!

The restaurant and bar are stunning - and the food is top notch. Also, they make one of the best mojitos around!

Staff are attentive, polite and always charming. I stubbed my toe badly on the second night, and they were extremely quick to administer first aid, and virtually every staff member we spoke to after that asked after my foot! Another little luxury are the cool face towels, complimentary bottled water and refreshing mint face spray that are brought over the minute you lie down on a deck chair.

Make sure you make the most of the music and movie selections (no additional movie fee) in the rooms - it was always so cool to come back to the room after dinner to have the bed turned down, candles burning and beautiful music playing on the ipod sound system...

I recommend this resort to anyone wanting to have a relaxing and luxurious beach holiday while travelling around Vietnam. It certainly refreshed us inbetween the hustle and bustle and grime of the city parts of our Vietnam trip! I have no doubt that we'll visit the Nam Hai again before too long :)

We stayed 3 nights in November, it rained most of the time but that in its own way was good! We really made use of our georgous room/suite.
There was flooding in area while we were there but we thought that it was fun - as we are from Perth and don't get flooding here.
The River in Hoi An had broken its banks and was up to the second street by our second day here.
Must say we got very strange looks from the other guests when it was pelting it down with rain, as we decide to go for a swim - we were wet anyway - the pool was lovely but a bit choppy on this particular day. HEHE
The best tailors ever - go to Yaly, the girls were great and the prices fantastic.
We would go back to The Nam Hai (if wecould afford it) in a heartbeat. Make sure you try the spring rolls on the room service menu!

Best resort we have stayed at.
Why we loved it:
• Friendly, proactive, “can do”, “nothing a problem” attitude of staff
• 1 bedroom villas were huge
• Great design based on Feng Shui principles
• 2 separate basins, outside and indoor shower,2 separate dressing areas
• Entertainment systems, ipod play, selection of online CDs, DVDs
• Extras thrown in as we stayed 7 nights, e.g. free pre dinner drinks, mini bar, laundry, one complimentary lunch and dinner
• Empty clean beaches, no hawkers
• Good value compared to other ultra luxury resorts
• Gym with good quality First Fitness equipment, 2 cross trainers, 3 running machines, an ergo, 8 weight machines, free weights
• 4 tennis courts

Note:
• Make sure you book villa as close to the beach and as far away from the back of the property, as there is a local community public address system that goes off at 5am to 6am every morning. Villa 5300 is on the beach and away from the noise.
• 1 bed villas are not suitable for anyone who isn’t very mobile or agile, climbing on and off the platform where the bed is and there is the risk of falling into the “pit” under the desk
• We didn’t have any spa treatments, looked pricey, but if you ever caught the Top Gear TV programme of Vietnam shown Dec 2008 you will know that Jeremy Clarkson rates it.

Definitely going back there, thinking of getting the family together and booking the 4 bed villa next year

This is a glamorous resort. I’m sure this is where the rich and famous would stay in Vietnam - and a few notable celebrities did during the five days we recently enjoyed here.

We soaked up every bit of luxury this place had to offer - for the price you pay you need to make the most of it. The pool villa we stayed in was beautifully designed with no expense spared on the decor - just watch your step as there are quite a few steps inside and out. There were separate living and bedroom bungalows, an outdoor shower, a private heated swimming pool (very warm) and our own butler.

The wet weather wasn't great but we were there to relax not to sunbathe. The resort was perfect for unwinding, reading, fine dining and exercising in the gym. Our villa was very private - each is set just far enough away with high walls. Not all villas are directly next to the ocean; ours was inset on the 'horseshoe' shaped layout. We still had lovely views of the rolling waves. We were surprised that, being a large resort, we hardly saw or heard anyone - it was so private and peaceful.

Due to the rain, we dined each night in the main restaurant rather than in nearby Hoi An. The food, wine and service were excellent - very expensive for Vietnam though. For this reason, we opted out of the New Year's Eve set-menu - very over priced. Room service that night was far more romantic and much better value for money (and very prompt).

Each morning, we had the option of having breakfast in the restaurant or in our villa. Both were excellent. The butler served afternoon tea and, later, canapés before dinner. After dinner in the restaurant we often sat by the piano for a drink and listened to 'Rain' sing some familiar tunes - she was great.

Nearby Hoi An was a lovely day trip. We were driven and picked up by private car each time – possibly part of our villa rate. The resort has a shuttle bus to town also. Hoi An is a charming town with lots of tailors (fun but hit and miss). Take a beautiful and romantic stroll through the narrow streets on the nights they are closed to the motorbikes – I think it is Monday, Wednesday and Friday but check with the resort. The town definitely has a different more relaxed feel at night.

We thought this resort was stunning. If you want to splash out stay in a pool villa. Enjoy.

The Nam Hai is the best luxury hotel we have been in Asia so far.
We stayed there 2 years ago and the hotel was in soft opening but nevertheless everything was perfect.
We booked a one bedroom room ( no pool) and it was just in front of the sea, but all the villas have sea view.

The resort is very private though Hoi An is near and it only takes 10 min by car to get there. Mini van from the hotel is available in the evening.
