“Fantastic food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2006

After 10 hours of travelling, getting to the Ballygrant Inn was heaven!

I had one of the best meals of my life on our arrival and our warm and cozy room provided a fantastic night's sleep. David and Ruby offer a warm welcome, indeed! The bar's selection of single malts is dazzling.

We moved into our rented cottage the following day, but had to come back for another of the mouth-watering meals provided here. It was lovely to be greeted like old friends, not only by David and Ruby but also by Cuillin (always ready to chase a ball!) and their magnificent black cat!

I, for one, cannot wait to return to Islay and taste another wonderful meal. That alone is worth the trip!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2005

We have just returned from 5 days at the Ballygrant Inn : it was great ! The accommodation is simple, the food is terrific, and the bar is full of locals. Ruby and David were very welcoming hosts, who together with their son Euan, friendly collie and evil cat, made our days there very pleasant. Nothing is too much trouble, we came back one afternoon having completely failed to find afternoon tea (the teashop in Bowmore being quite unwelcoming) asking Ruby for a cup of coffee and were given not only the coffee but home-made fruit loaf as well. Her sticky toffee pudding is exceptional, and so are the local Islay foods such as the scallops.
The bar has a pool table, darts and a good range of malts as well as the local ales. Locals are friendly.
You do need to know that the rooms are not fully ensuite, they have a shower and wash basin but the loo is down the hall. This was not a problem to us. There are only 3 rooms.
